I like to think of the future... and once my 7A-FTE is complete, I fear that I'll soon get bored of it's limits, as have many other 7A-FTE-ers out there and go the 3S-GTE route after.I searched for all these words: "altezza, beams, 3sge, blacktop, 210hp"... I didn't find much. I've seen pictures on here but that's about it. Seeing as this is probably Toyota's most powerful NA 4 banger(210HP), this is something I like. lol. All I've been able to find is that it's rare as ****, which I figured, and that it came on the altezza(jdm is300). Does anyone know any companies that import the clip with the beams blacktop just so i can get an idea of the price. i saw on celicatech that someone mentioned there was one on ebay once for like 4500 for the front clip. not too bad for something that's non turbo and as i imagine, reliable. i love my car and many ppl tell me to sell it and get a brand new car, but i love that ****. it looks so nice and everyone else assumes it's newer than it actually is. lol. so does anyone know what companies import the beams blacktop? can anyone give me more info on this rare motor(i tried google... lol). how feasible is this motor to put in the celi? i have an st so i know it's more of a bitch, but w.e. and if im not mistaken, this motor came with a 6spd tranny and in rwd format. im guessing the blacktop;s tranny wont be usable so im guessing the gt tranny would be good since people can use the gt tranny for a beams redtop? thanks a lot guys.

It doesnt fit. tongue.gif
The VVTI wheel on the exhaust side will hit the side of your car.

Your best bet would be a redtop 3sge (with the grey rocker cover) from a GT Caldina, this seems to be the most common beams 3sge that Ive seen, as I see heaps of GT caldinas around these days.

As this is a 'fwd' engine, and will fit right in.

However, dont expect it to be cheap!

Cheaper than a blacktop however.

Besides that... which is very interesting to me... the blacktop is set up longitudinal, which means the intake manifold will point the wrong way, the water inlets will be going to the wrong places, you'll need a tranny and axles, you'll need all different accesory mounts and brackets, etc. Redtop is easier...

I really suggest that you guys who want to swap out engines and put in a new one with more power consider that once its done. Your car will never be the same again. Some people who have gone that route are now selling there cars left and right. Its that "THING" that drives you insane and constantly eat you apart. This thing that I am talking about is being addicted to power. Once you taste that power or difference in your car you either:
1.) Don't want it anymore cause its not the same like it was originally
2.) Not enough power which makes you look into other cars instead
3.) You no longer have any pride or joy in your ride.
4.) You find it hard to maintain such a beauty, yet at the same time you need something reliable to drive.

Me im finding that its really hard to drive the celi around now, consideing that its not too reliable, might breakdown, have no A/C and P/S.

My advice is to have a project car...The celica and then a daily driver that will get you from A to B. Even if its from Cali to New York. You will find that you will maintain your pride and joy yet at the same time, be like "yeah I got a fast car at home, wanna race?" Having a 3sgte Powered celica is not as reliable as having a 5hitty 5sfe engine to drive around. If you want to mod your car, just do slight body work, and supension setups, or good rims. Low pros, feel like crap around pebbles and bumpy roads, cause they don't absorb any of the shocks and instead sends it to the steering wheel.

For real, Altezza does not call any JDM IS200 OR IS300, the true name for this black-top 3S-GE is called RS200.

That's not true. There's a lot of swappers that are happy with their car. Lagos and jgreening are two off the top of my head. You just have to get the bugs worked out.

You can pretty much almost go to any jdm engine importer and have them import you a clip. They all can do it. Its just that theres almost no point in importing and having them in stock or advertised cause there are other and better options. Almost no one with an IS300 is gonna swap out their 2jz i6 for a 3s i4. If anything, they'd rather go with a turbo 2jz. Most importantly, there isn't really any other US Toyota car that'll be able to put a blacktop beams in good use. Its too expensive and there are better options to go with.

yea i knew that, in japan the altezza with the blacktop is rs200 and the 6 cylinder is the as200. im just sayin, if it came out here, it'd be an is200. i mean, usdm, it is the IS series.(3.0 engine is is300, the new 3.5 is the is350, etc.)

The redtop was available in the:
Celica
MR2.

Which came with 200hp(manual) and 190hp(auto).

The 'greytop' as some call it (A redtop 3sge with a grey rocker cover, and unpainted intake manifold) was available in the:
GT Caldina
Rav 4 G limited
Both JDM only, as far as I am aware.
These were only available as the 190hp version, as there wasnt a manual transmission option for these cars.

The blacktop engine was only ever available in the RS200 Altezza, and only in RWD format.
210hp (manual) and 200hp (auto)

Have a quick look here, for a full list of 'S' series engines available. (And all the others!)

hey there four of 3sge vtt-i of differen ffrom each other.. but the altezza hav the differen intake manifold then the red top, there is two vvt-i are the same like red top and black top, but the one in altezza is differen, i seem.

they all have twin cam but there only on e have two vvt-i cam.. that altezza and the other is the sliver top.
they all has same horsepower but differen torque..

it hard to find altezza 3sge vvt-i with 2 cam of vvt-i.
celica from 97 thro 99 it has the red top. that only has singel vvt-i. but it has twin cam too.. so it kinda different.

if u wanna swap why do u try redtop is easy black top caz it rear wheel drive.
here is pictur of the black of 3sge vvt-i of altezza
