hey guys,
we started filling motor mounts with poly to stiffen them up a bit, and have had great results with it, so i figured id throw out a feeler, and see if anyone is interested in some.

what we'll have available is this:
5sfe and 7afe motor mounts, filled with one of 2 diffrent hardness polys:

Black (stiff), which is stiff but still has a very small amount of flex, which IMO will be great for the N/A guys, give better shifter feel, and less engine movement, ect.

or

Tan (super stiff), which is VERY stiff, and will be great for the swap and turbo guys who need the extra stiffness from the extra power.

the deal will go like this:
basicly, we'll charge 10$ for each mount, with a 20$EA. core fee, which will be returned to you when you send back your old one. buyers will pay shipping costs.

if we can generate some interest, i will provide an online how-to on removing and installing the mounts.

the best part is that any profit that will be made from this will be given to christian, to help with site costs, and maybe even add some features to the site, so your helping out 6GC in the process!!!

so, heres your chance to get some sweet poly filled mounts with NO down time, and help out 6GC in the process!
any interest?
here are some pics of a couple Tan (super stiff) mounts ready to install:

i'd like to thank Batman722 and Defgeph, both of who donated mounts to get this thing started.

Might want to find some black paint to paint over the urithane. That's what I did, and although you don't see it once it's in, it still looks better going in. Might help sales. Let me know if you need any help filling these things. I'm kinda close to you guys, so I couldn't really offer anyone cheaper shipping. Let me know.

What exactly does a motor mount do? Where does it "mount" to? Pics of it in the engine bay? How long will the install take? HP benefits? Thanks.

notice the part that says core fee, which will be returned. You pay for mount and core fee, u install new and send in old when it arrives u get core fee back. simple as that.

thanks docray, thats exactly right.
ill send you a set, you remove yours and send them to me, i refund you 20$
bigmean: yea, im thinking about going over them with undercoating..
celicaV motor mounts are exactly what they sound like mounts, for your motor to hold it in the car..lol
no HP gain.
ill get a couple pics of where the mounts go ect once i make up the how to. if you wanna see your front mount, open your hood, look straight down in the middle of the engine bay, its right there, attached to the front to back crossmember.

I have filled mounts and they have made a tremendous improvement. Anyone with horsepower mods should definitely consider this modification. The stock mounts do not do well with more torque being applied to them. Some claim more "responsiveness" from throttle modulations because changes are transferred to the ground more instantaneously rather than being first partially absorbed in the mount.

The material I used was Shore A80. A stock mount is probably somewhere in the neighborhood of Shore A50-A60. Here is a the Shore scale so that people can see what the numbers translate to:

user posted image

As you can see, the harder material, the higher the shore rating. There are different scales as you go up or down on hardness beyond the Shore A scale.

When the mount is soft, it has more give. This causes engine rock under torque and then when the throttle is released, the engine rocks back to its original position. So, why not just fill those mounts with steel? The answer is that the rubber insulates the vibrations of the motor from the car chassis. If the mounts were steel (like they are on some drag cars), the car would shake considerably under idle. Once, the car is moving, the vibrations are not as bad although I do notice my rear view mirror shakes a bit now. Excess shaking is not only bad for comfort but also causes excess wear on the mechanical part of the car. So, what are performance enthusiasts to do? The answer to that is to search for the balance that in mount hardness that is applicable to your situation.

Typically, people are using material that ranges from Shore A70 to Shore A95 on do-it-yourself mounts. The softest in that range will feel very close to stock in terms of comfort and the hardest will have very noticable (although some say acceptable) vibration at idle. When mounts are filled, the stock rubber piece remains so using a Shore A80 material might result in an actual hardness closer to Shore A75. There are companies that manufacture replacement urethane mounts or inserts for some applications. The only ones I know of for the 6gc are TRD mounts which would have to be imported to the USA. I think these are actually the entire mount and not just the rubber piece but I am not sure. Someone here will know.

The only caution that I would give people about this mod is that you may want to think twice about doing it if you are still traveling under stock horsepower. While going to stiffer mounts was crucial for me due to my car's engine modifications, I would not have done it if I had kept the stock 5sfe.

Hope that helps some people.

- Jay

i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this.

Thanks for the great info Manny and J. Yeah, my question was pretty stupid! But since my engine is basically stock for now, I will have to say no for now.
