ok, so i decided to ditch my old 7afte set up and go 3sgte. i am in the middle of pulling the engine. all that is left is 2 bolts to the trans, the motor mounts, starter and power steering. whats the best way to pull the power steering because i am having some trouble with getting it out and its slowing me down a little.

I think Bigfoot is blurry, that's the problem. It's not the photographer's fault. Bigfoot is blurry. And that's extra scary to me, because there's a large, out-of-focus monster roaming the countryside.

Good luck man, take ur time. Research, research, research.

For the power steering, just unbolt the hoses that are connected to the pump.

Make sure all the hoses, wires, cables, and grounds are disconected before lift off. Once you start to lift it out of the bay have someone keep and eye out for something you might have missed.

Its really easy, you'll see. wink.gif

i was origanally going to go with a 3s swap a while ago but didnt have the money so i went 7afte. i also just blew a rod bearing and since i will have a spare car for about a month and the money to complete the swap i figured it would be a good chance to do it.

thanks, ill need it. the easy part is outa the way now. i think the hardest part will be replacing the automatic transmission and swapping in the manual. i have pulled many engines be for so this wasnt hard, and have replaced transmissions and clutchees and stuff like that, but never accually swaped an auto to a manual. any suggestions on making it easyer?? i read over the auto to manual swap topic a few times but not sure if its going to be as easy as it sounds.

ok, so iam ordering my st 185 front clip tomorrow and i have two choices.

user posted image
This one looks stock and pretty clean for $1,400.00 not a bad deal.

user posted image
or this one. notice the HKS filter and after market strut bar. it also came with a full coilover suspension. this on is for $1,500.00 only thing about this is that iam pretty sure it was beat on and was abused by the previous owner because of the after market parts. also the intercooler looks pretty beat up, even though iam not using the Top mount it still looks pretty beat on.

What do you think????

I think this project just got a hole lot easyer. this kid i sorta no that lives a few blocks down from me also has a 6th gen a used to go on this site a while ago untill he blew his motor in his GT. i saw him drivin a twin turbo 300ZX today so i figured he gave up on doing anything to his celi so i stoped by and gave him a visit. i was going to just buy the mounts, trans, shifter cable and a few interior pieces off his car untill he offered me $1,000 for the hole car. at first i was like ok, i can take what i need and sell the rest....when it hit me, i would be much better off just puting the 3sgte into that car being its allready a GT, has the mounts and is all ready 5 speed. what do you think??

they are very reasonable, I can get the halfcut(st185) shipped to me(residential) with a liftgate for around $1800, I think that is pretty reasonable biggrin.gif

Man if I was you I would swap the 3sgte in the GT.
For the ST I would keep it and when you've enough money use it
as a daily driver.
Then you can go down as one of the few people on this site with 2

iam probaly getting the GT tomoroow for $1,000.00 w/ a blown motor. iam still waiting for my front clip tho!!!!! they said 7-10 business days and it has been some were around their allready. so iam goin to have 2 1/2 celicas sitting in my drive way by the end of this week lol, ill have to take a pic of that. ill have my red St a black GT and the black front clip st185. ill take some pix as soon as i get them all. other then ECU and engine what else has to be done to the GT to swap in a 3sgte. i have done tons of research for the St and now i have to do it all to the GT. iam using the 5sfe tranny because i read that a few people have done it and have had no problems, ill just buy an upgraded clutch and fly wheel and hopefully that will hold the power.

JFrost - rent a trailer and drive it home - if you have an engine hoist take it down - rent a pallet jack for mobility - that's the cheapest way i could think of --

yea i was thinking something along those lines...my biggest problems would be the down time, finding a garage/engine hoist(think a friend has one) and just getting everything organized. back to the actual thread though, Street its even easier to do the GT...its practically the same as the ST, only you can take out a few earlier steps like switchin motor mounts, and then the axles and cables. If you were able to do the ST, then you shouldnt have a problem with the GT.
