Would this gain me any horsepower? I know that an automatic transmission sucks more horse from the wheels because it has more moving parts, so swapping in a manual transmission should show some gains right? How much horse ya think though?

get a shift kit and a performance torque converter and it will be as efficient as a 5spd and shift harder and faster.

Well, B&E will make a torque converter for the car if you want. You can fill out the form on their website to get a custom torque converter made, but you need many dementions which is why I decided not to go for that option. And where did you find a shift kit? Most I see are for older cars.

ok if you do the auto/manny swap you wont gain more power at the crank but you might feel it different at the wheels because you will probably shift at higher rpms than the auto tranny does.

level 10 makes shift kits and performance torque converters for all toyota auto trannies

http://www.levelten.com/

a shift kit replaces the valve bodies in the tranny with bigger ones and therefore allows it to shift much more quickly. and simply adding a performance torque converter shaves about 1/2 a second of your ET. with those two things, the car will shift faster than most people can in a 5spd.
