Hi guys I am about to install my magnaflow oval muffler on my 94 celica Gt model. The previous owner already removed the catalatic converter, but left the middle muffler that is between the cat and the muffler at the rear of the car.
-My question is do you feel this middle muffler lowers performance at all as it looks to be a straight through muffler. I believe it is there just to help muffle the sound? Not for backpressure control. -I am thinking of removing it, but if it won't change anything I'd probably just leave it. I am thinking the real restriction lies within the factory muffler itself and the cat. that is already gone. THanks!!!! |

i'm pretty sure you are talking about the resonator.... i am not sure about the performance question, but I know almost everyone on here says that if you want the best sound, keep the resonator..
I have the 2 1/4" cat back with resonator and magnaflow muffler.. sounds awesome. -------------------- ~Daniel~ No Longer Celica Owner.. moved on to a 03 WRX-EJ207

-Resonator, yes that is the word I was looking for!!!!! What does it sound like without it???? More high pitched and rice like? Not a big fan of the rice burner sound myself....

thats what most people on here told me... the resonator keeps it from being raspy and loud inside the car... I'm sure some people on here do not have a resonator and could help ya out on how theirs sound.

the stock resonator does hurt the flow because its a slotted core..meaning the walls of the pipe have slots tilted up into the exhaust stream to direct some into the packing to deaden sound...
where as an aftermarket PREFORATED(drilled) core which looks like the inside of your magnaflow...the wall is smooth, flat and has holes which keeps the exhaust flow much smoother and less "restricted" while still deadening the sound |

i have a lightly used 3 foot generic resonator that roughly matches the size of stock 1.8L piping. if i pulled the stock resonator and replaced it with the glasspack straight through resonator would you think that it would sound any different than stock? i dont want a bumble bee, i want a little better flow while remaining stock sounding.

QUOTE(playr158 @ Mar 14, 2006 - 2:14 PM) the sound will change...to wat you'll just have to test and find out alright, thanks. i'm wary about touching my exhaust system because its all rusted together, i'll wait until someting breaks or i get leak to use an excuse to start messing with it. -------------------- |
