Aftermarket CD Player installation Options

Hi all,

I got a CD-40z Nakamishi cd player I would like to install
in my 1995 celica GT instead of the factory cassette unit.
How difficult is it to do it yourself, what is involved and
most importanly, is there a wiring set available which would allow me to
plug the player directly into the OEM system without any cutting/slicing.
Any info/experience would be greatly appreciated1

Yes you can go on cardomain.com and get an installation kit for our car. They will give you a harness that plugs into our factory. Then just take the two harnesses (the cardomain one and the one that came with the radio) and splice the wires together. All the wires are marked and not hard to follow at all. Hope this helps.

When I installed mine, Circuit City had adapters for the wiring so that I didn't have to splice anything, just plugged the 2 harnesses together

Thank a lot.
Now, my main problem - the cd player came from a junk
yard, and I DO NOT have any labeling of the unit output wires.
Would color match be sufficient - do not want to burn anything!

The cardomain site is down now, but when I got my sony, they had a harness that plugged into the back of the head unit, then I plugged it into the adapter that plugged into the factory wiring harness.

Go to walmart and buy the wiring harness, its like $6.95. Then color match all the wires from walmart wiring harness to the wires that come out of your new CD-player. Then just plug the walmart harness to ur car plug. And dont forget , you are supose to use 5mm screws to hold the head unit in its braket. If u use anything bigger it might kill the CD-player (I've seen that happen). That is pretty much it, takes me about 10min to do the whole thing, prolly cuz in last 11month I went from stock to clarion to alpine to panasonic and now to eclipse. I can pretty much do it with my eyes closed . And dont worry dude its really easy to do.
Basicly just look over this manual and u'll know what to do

where do you get the face plate to cover up the hole?

there is a size difference between the stock and aftermarket players, where do you get the cover to cover up the hole?

I agree. Is this $6.95 thing in Walmart ALL one needs? From your vast experience -
we have the same cars - Is it all to get a decent looking installation?
No need for extra kits, brackets, face cover plates, etc?

Well I got a dash kit too, just because i wanted to have a place to put my Cd's in. But its not really needed, especially because u had cassete stock which comes with a cover. So just reuse that and you will be fine.
To get the dash kit, check out walmart and if they dont have it go to pretty much any car shop (pepboys, advanced auto parts, autozone) they will prolly have it. I bought mine from an AudioShop just because I chill there a lot. It should cost no more then $20. And most of the dash kits that u buy are made for a bunch of cars, like all honda's and toyotas so you will have to read the manual to get the pieces fit. Which should be that hard because you only need two pieces and reuse your stock metal braket that holds the stereo.

Well, I did everything - and ended up with one problem. My player has one blue wire and
the harness has two- one plain and one with a stripe. I connected plain ones and left the
striped unused. Immediately upon pluging in my power antenna rose and no matter
what - turning on/off, etc. - stayed up (no jokes, please). Seriously, I do not want it up
all the time, and it is broken anyway. What went wrong? Blue is for the antenna, i understand.

the one from the player might be a amp remote cable. Just unplug it.

It is used to turn on external amplifiers.
