Hey guys,

got my celica the way i want it to look but its lacking the power.

im intrested in having the engine turbo charged and looking at some options.

A) full engine conversion from the GT4.
B) Strip a GT4 engine and fit the turbo etc to the 3SGE engine (if possible)
C) Upgrade to a blitz turbo kit (£5.5k) frown.gif

Im thinking the only way to do this would be the gt4 converion because surly more people would have turbo charged st202 if it was just the case of taking the bits needed off the GT4.

Thanks for any input in advanced.

Kenny

I was at the same point as you are now, but that was six months ago. Also wanted to turbocharge the 3S-GE but like you said major $$$. And you still have the high compression pistons.
"Easiest" choice was to get a 3S-GTE, and thats what i did about 4 months ago. Hoping to be finished later this week.

The only other 3S-GE -> 3S-GTE swap i know of from the forum is Stehn's ride.

I've done the 3SGE + T conversion. I swapped over the stock turbo pistons to run higher boost. As compared to the cost of a 3rd gen 3SGTE front clip, I think its a comparable option.

Sure, what do you want to know?

Motor:
Rebuilt the stock motor using a set of used all-trac pistons I had lying around. Everything else on the motor is stock Toyota 3SGE parts.

Turbo:
The head is basically the same as the 205, so any turbo kit for the 205 will work, including the stock manifold/turbo. I used a Greddy knock-off and a mitsu turbo/dp.
I put a tee before the oil pressure sensor to feed the turbo. Drilled out the boss on the GE's oil pan for the return. Water lines for the turbo were linked to the throttle body's water lines.

ECU:
I used the 205 ECU and map sensor that I had sitting around (ignitor and all other sensor were the same) and re-pinned the harness to accomidate. I used a set of DSM 550 cc injectors (direct fit) for fuel. I'm using the stock Celica ST fuel pump, and its holding up so far at 8-10psi.

If I didn't have the 205 ECU, I would have looked into the PowerFC which I believe is available for the 3SGE motor. Though I'd bet the stock ECU could handle 1 bar of boost.

What exactly is DSM? did you rewire the ECU from the original ECU plug? Does the stock turbo pump 8psi standard?

Not 8psi but 0.8 bar so that makes 12psi

DSM = Diamond Star Mitsubishi (eclipse, Talon, Evo - 4G63 motor). The injectors are top feed 440's (or 550's with the Evo). Just need to add the resistor pack to make the ECU happy.

I did re-pin the stock 3SGE harness to fit the 205 ECU. Not too difficult.

I did mean that the stock ST fuel pump is able to handle 8 PSI (.5 bar) so far. Once I get a boost controller hooked up, we'll see what the pump can truely handle.

I'm really interested to do the same thing with my baby. What do you estimate is your power compared to your 3sge setup. Are you happy with the power increase?

The power difference is quite amazing! Easily comparable to an ST205 - in fact the cheap mitsubishi 14b turbo I'm using seems to spool faster and harder then the ct20b.

Interesting, do you have a dyno sheet to show anything? Reason I ask is just curiosity, not to say you're lying. It would be nice to have a side by side comparison vid of the "spooling" wink.gif

No dyno's at this point, the car's only been running for a few months with the new motor and I've just gotten past 1500 miles (time to turn up the boost).

I'm just going off of memory when I said the 14B seems to be spooling faster then the 20B. I've had the CT26, CT20b, Turbonetics T3/T4, and Greddy 20G on my ST185 (with a 205 motor) and this little 14B is definately responding more like the aftermarket turbo's then the stock CT's.

Just a quick update - I love this motor!!!

Turned the boost up to 15 PSI using a manual boost controller, and now the car really moves. 3500 - 6000 rpm has tons of pull and the tiny turbo just screams (literally). The stock MR2 BOV works great. Stock ST202 fuel pump is holding up fine too.

This car easily walks away from stockish 185's and 2nd gen MR2's. A buddy with a CT27 powered MR2 is going to be checking it out tonight, I have a feeling he'll be jealous tomorrow.

I'll try to get a quick vid of it later this week, before it goes under the knife again. I have some bad valve ticking which is setting off the knock sensor. I had a vavle job while the motor was apart (just a re-grind w/ new seals - valvetrain is 100% stock) so the machine shop is fixing it for free.
