Ok just wanted ya'll thoughts on drag racing and track racing..wich one is better..which one takes more skill to do... ?

i think the racing pyramid is as follows
i think circuit racing/road racing/WRC/TOCA tour/F1 are the series styles that show the most skill drag racing also requires skill but i dont think as much as the ones above i think as far as reflexes and skill and the ability to cope WRC is the king |

i have to agree with WRC being the most skills need for racing in.. then followed be Formula One... you need skill taking turns at 130 miles/hours....then they rest fall right in...and again i don't want to take anything away from drag racing but then again it's a stright line....

i find most forms of auto racing boring, except for WRC. that stuff is crazy and fun to watch.
and yes, drag racing takes skill, but its still in a straight line -------------------- 1994 Celica GT4 WRC Edition

Of course Rally comes out on top - look at the stress that both the cars and the drivers go through. I love it!
I disagree on the F1 though. Although I'm a huge f1 fan, (watch every race live (early monday mornings), and read all the news each week) I have to say that driving a CART car would require more skill. These are my points: - At current time F1 cars use traction control!!, auto gearing, launch control and other driving aids. - CART relies on the drivers skill - Because the cars are nearly identical. - The F1 cars do an average of a couple of seconds faster than the CART cars. Formula 1 will start to become much more challenging to the drivers over the next few years as they start to remove all the driving aids. Should be good to watch |

WRC and rally drivers are absolute lunatics. alot of circuit drivers ive talked to said as fun as it would be, they would be freaked out of their mind doing that stuff rally drivers do. then it all just filters down. road track/circuit is awesome.

hehehe just kiddin.... drag racing requries no skill at all... and track racing....hmmm about 7 previous dents in my car explains how hard it is |

drag racing does require skill, just not as much as the other forms, holeshots, reaction times, and timing are all essential, but arent really "skilled" unless you are running a nitro fueled top drag car hitting the finish in under 7 seconds.

I think you guys are wrong about WRC racing, I know it requires alot of skill no doubt but after reading an interview in Automobile with Shumacher he made a good point. When asked what about who he has respect for he said motorcycle racers because of their level of fitness and skill level. Then asked about WRC he said something to the effect that the handling characteristics of those cars are very predictable and transparent. But in a Formula One car you walk such a fine line, its hard for me to word this as well as Shu did and I'll keep looking for the magazine. Simply put, its easier to drive a car to its limit when you can see the edge of its capabilities coming, example- WRC cars. Its harder to drive a car to its limit when its handling capabilities suddenly end, example Formula 1. If you were driving a car hard and the tires were screaming around a turn like say drifting, you can judge how far to push it before you slide out but if you were driving a car and it was holding then suddenly the grip ended which would be harder to drive? It would be much harder to drive the car that gives no warning to the end of its road holding. Im not great at explaining it so I hope someone understands what I mean, and don't get me wrong, the WRC racers are INSANE, I love em but there is a reason why the best race car drivers in the world are in F1. Don't forget about fitness levels either that is a huge part of racing, look at some of the guys with guts in Nascar then the athletes in F1, the skill level goes hand in hand with this example...

very good point.
what i find hilarious was in an article (not sure which mag) they took drivers from all different racing types. nascar, formula 1, rally, dirt track, circuit, i believe a stunt man/journalist was in on it too and an engineer. they all went to a skid pad and tried to see who could hold the longest drift. out of them all it was the engineer who held it the longest haha. -------------------- Believer, you'll leave her, in leaving them all No but I don't buy it Like anything you do, as anyone you are Cause I'm... Wu hu!! the engineer takes it.
You are comparing apples and oranges with the different classes. Different skills and attributes give you a different advantage in each style. F1 and Cart are memory and technical, WRC relies on reaction and comunications with your co-driver. My buddy was a co-driver and they are so important in rally races. My fav. is WRC though... you have to be a little crazy for that |

Mild that was a good point, but I disagree with your statement because of one thing. Formula 1 drivers, although yes they race different tracks, ALWAYS run on good quality tarmac (well at least if all is going to plan). The racing conditions are always very similar (especially if you take monaco out of the equation). Weigh this against a rally driver, who not only has different surfaces for each event, but also for each stage, and sometimes even multiple surfaces within the one stage. I mean they travel through the sand of africa, the mud of south america, the mountains and snow of europe, and other nasty elements!!
Add to this a turbo charger (harder to keep engine from failing than NA), and a loudmouth co-driver, and you have a very difficult job for the driver. I honestly think that if you got an f1 driver to trade places with a rally driver, the f1 guy would take a lot longer to pick up the skills... |

WRC AND DRIFTIN ARE THE BEST. ish juss hella fun~~~ i know it'd get scary when ur driftin and ur car is a few inches away from the free fall. but hey~~~ excitement and fun is wut is all about.
