I was reading the USA Today today, and they had an article about the new season of the MTV show "Pimp My Ride". Apparently, the garage they use on the show is moving from West Coast Customs to some huge ass Ford dealership in San Bernadino, CA. It is like the largest selling Ford dealership in the country, and they have been customizing cars for decades too. Some of the current cast will be on the new season too, including "Mad Mike".

ANYWAY, they mentioned that one of the episodes will involve a "vintage" Toyota Celica (I'm guessing 1st or 2nd Gen) and that they had to go through three rebuilt engines and two rebuilt transmissions before they could get the car going right. So, I guess, stay tuned for when that episode comes on! biggrin.gif

Yeah X is still the host. I read that they put an IPod in it.

"Look for a 1990 Toyota Celica outfitted with an iPod hookup that includes a ridiculously spacious two-terabyte hard drive (that's enough space to play music for more than a year without repeating a song)."

They also said that more than a third of the cars on the new season will have IPods in them.

^^^ I though the first all track was made in 1986-1989 ST-165. kindasad.gif but since I don't know too much may be wrong.

vintage celicas include the first two generations ( 1976-1985) I believe.

I think the guys on the show have a lot of talent, but the amount of audio and visual equipment put into the cars is sometimes SOOOOOO excessive. I mean who really needs 5 19" monitors and 12 woofers in their truck??? I mean the rides end up weighing twice as much when they are all done, then you are doing 0-60 in like 15 plus seconds and worry by the minute about someone stealing your Circuit City on wheels. If they had my car, I would just tell them to make it lighter and faster and bad ass looking.

pssh! like they'll listen. the name of the show isn't "make my car GOOD" it's "pimp my ride" and every good pimp puts way too much money put into useless things only to brag about how much money they have..... one example of a worthless thing I have actually seen is T.V. monitors in the back of the headrests of the BACK seats! I guess so people driving behind you can watch what you're watching?

It's ALL excessive because thats what makes for an entertaining TV show. Otherwise people watching MTV would lose interest.

Now, if the audience of the show wasn't teenagers, then they would probably show more of the buildup and performance end of things and they would look much more tastefully done...I.E. Overhaulin. wink.gif

I agree. After all, it is MTV, and SUPPOSEDLY the channel is based around Music and Video, hence the excessive audio and visual equipment in the "pimped" rides. We would have to have a show called "Turbo/Supercharge/Force Induct My Ride!" and have the JDM guys (Jeff, Dan, Manny) as the hosts lol...
