hey 6gc'rz
well i've just ordered some jdm power folding mirrors. only thing is i dont know if i should go ahead with the purchase i want them to work without too much fuss? the questions are: 1. are they plug and play? 2. how hard is it to take out the housing of the original mirrors? 3. do i need additional wires or connections to make them work. 4. where abouts is the relay box screwed/placed on? i've posted 2 pics at the bottom that may be able to help. if anyone can take pics of the stuff it will help me greatly especially with the mounting of the relay box. i might even be able to make a how-to-article for this.. thanks ohh yeah i've search the website and turboinduction did have a thread don't know what happened to it though just kindah ended up abruptly. -R -------------------- ROM-23L 67 + 76 = 143

i had mine done about a month ago... my mechanic helped me with it...
i bought mine on ebay.. the relay was the wrong one so i ended up not using the control unit that came with it... i ended up wiring it so the mirrors fold in when the car is off and when i open the doors and they fold out when i turn on the car... added an extra switch to disable it for the winter times when freezing rain might screw it up i think it took close to 15hours to complete the task... a lot of time was also just figuring things out... for a long time i also thought i killed my mirrors... then they magically worked again... I have a question though. Is the visibility going to be the same? Becuase the Driver's side mirror (US) is flat, and the Passenger side mirror is Convex, which is why it says "things in the mirror are closer than they appear" only on the passenger side. So does this cuase any visibility problems since your switching to mirrors that were from a RHD car?

i just got my mirrors in today.. right now i'm using a 110v to 12v convertor (home outlet to neg & pos clamps) which is a lot more helpful than using the car's 12V supply. anyway, i've tested out the JDM mirror loom.
i've figured out most things so far in regards to how to get the mirror to retract open, retract close, adjust vertically and adjust horizontally. so far, step 1 is done. have you figured that out yet? if not, i'll let you know. This post has been edited by azian_advanced: Jul 27, 2006 - 6:05 PM |

yeah.. i was afraid that i'd do the same. luckily i pushed in as hard as i could while unscrewing them.. and they weren't too tight. mine are already red so i'll only be replacing the driver side because of a few scratches.

QUOTE FYI the part number listed for the control relay is not a valid toyota part number I tried at a dealer yesterday to find that and order it, but nope, did not show up in either of the computer programs or in the books, USDM or JDM -------------------- |

actually, it's somewhat of a tough job. if you don't have the relay, it becomes even more confusing.. i've got the pre-96 ones that require the relay. then there's the later spec where the retractor wires wire up directly to the control switch since the relay is already built in.
rpmgarage on e-bay is selling a set of the later spec ones. -------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
