The Intercooler $150 shipped
Intercooler link

* Supports over 600hp
* Core - 4.5" x 10.125" x 4.5 "
*3" inlet / 3" outlet

How can you screw somthing like this up, its a box with holes. so i dont mind it being ebay.

If its a part made for a huge v8 i bet it will work fine for my little 4 banger.

The Heat exchanger $???-175
I personally was thinking of cheap alternatives to buying one using:
* stock air/air 3sgte interheater.
* stock AC heat exchanger mounted infront of the Radiator.
(my ac isnt hooked up and never will be so i dont mind)
* Filling up my current front mount. < which i think will workout.

The extras Roughly under $100
Proper clamps an silicone couplers,
shouldnt be too much since there are few places needing a coupler.


Total $342, now what, like 20 bucks in hardware store fittings and hoses?
and maybe a couple bucks more for wires and switches for the pump?
I can have a pretty nice setup not buying a heat exhanger, which are only $100-$200 for under $350 bucks.(more)
Thats cheaper than a Good air/air setup and will probly out perform it in Flow, Temps, and Lag/Piping.

got any input?

Looks like a copy of sparco... 3" inlet/outlet seem little too big...

do not use your intercooler for that its not going to be efficient for cooling water at all because of end-tank and inlet/outlet design

A good idea is to look for motorcycle radiator, i got one off ebay for my buddys turbod rsx, brand new 14"x5" paid $60 shipped
otherwise go on ebaymotors and look for an oil cooler, or order HE from summit they got them for like $180

Consider getting water reservoir thats can sustain/isolate from engine bay temps.

Keep in mind, the more water you have in your system (bigger reservoir) the longer it will take to reach heat soak and lesser need for efficient heat exchanger. Increasing flow of the pump will maximize efficiency of IC.

check out my sweet new setup.
im not that ghetto... close. but.

i found a box and made it to spec with the water/air average size unit. good for 1200hp they say.
made a 3inch turbo intake pipe with nipples for ventalation, to move the air filter.
im think im gunna go this route. probly just as effective as the st205 if not more?
also away from the hot manifold (with no cracks yet... knock on wood).


dont worry manny ive learned from day one with the 5sfte till now.
i know not to do things cheap, but i think that these products are fine.
aslong as the welds on tank are good and it doesnt leak i dont mind it only being 150 bucks lol
and the pump is on a factory ford that they have sold thousands of.
i grabbed a nice heat exchanger from a household AC unit, pretty large.
the reservoir i can use my stock washer fluid unit and fill that with ice.
i think its going to turn out to a pretty nice preforming system.

I'll be interested to see how this turns out. I've wanted to do a water/air setup like this for some time and this is the first time I've seen the parts even close to affordable.

Personally, unless you can find out what brand the core is, I doubt that it's efficient enough for 800hp though.

my goals are never gunna be more than 400 so i dont mind it being able to not support 1200 800 w/e aslong as it out performs my current setup im happy.

I would suggest you get a real Spearco core - I've seen those eBay cores in person... there is a difference.

The water inlet and outlets do not have enough room to allow the water to spread through the core, and the way they are layed out doesn't allow the whole core to fill with water.

You'll probably also find that the fins inside the core are not as good at transferring heat from the charge air compared to a quality core.

The choice is yours though. wink.gif

The intercooler you want to use is way off from what is used on the real thing. Isn't it easier to find a real radiator as used on the ST205/ST185RC Okay doubt you can find one in the US but still you could use a radiator from a smaller vehicle and put that in the front.

Water will fill out the whole core, but only if the IC is positioned so water inlet is on the bottom and outlet is on the top... but generally I agree for this price you can have some OEM water IC(ebay link)

Especially for a CT26.
A good one to get is a Cobra upgrade.

If you are going for 400 whp, you should invest in cams, oversize valves, BFT, injectors and an EMS first. A good FMIC on a FF car will get you there easy. You can always upgrade to W/A later - if you would even want to.

like i said before ammount of water circulated in an a/w system is proportional to requirement for heat exchange efficiency almost any motorcycle radiator will support sub-400 hp that circulates 2-4 gallons

It might "support" it, but it's not going to do a tremendous job doing it.

Ever seen how big a RC heat exchanger is?
Or a ST205 one?

Even a stock Cobra/Lightning one is larger than that.

It will work, but you are MUCH better off getting one larger than that.
