Damage Pics -- High Res (56K This is gonna HURT) Options

Ok, I just got to take a "with my own eyes" look at it. It's not nearly as bad as I was anticipating, but there's a definitive crease in the lower portion of the dent, and the upper portion at the top has a bit of a crease, and there's a dent in the door visible in a couple of the pics.

Looking pretty much straight down on it (disregard my white bummin' shoes):

Hopefully it can be fixed without painting, but I'm not holding my breath. I'm taking it to a couple of places on Wednesday or Thursday for estimates, and depending on the outcome we'll either have the entire car painted or just have the quarter panel fixed.

Also, after seeing it first hand, and "testing" the body panel on that and the other side, that cart hit our car with some freaking FORCE, no doubt about that. I have no doubts that this was NOT a case of a runaway cart.

yeah, there's no way that a cart would be able to put that big of a dent in a car without someone pushing it... extremely fast... that sucks dude, hopefully your wife's work will pay for it all though.

leave it to a professional mate, yeah the suction cups are ok, but you may pull 1 bit that causes a crease in another bit.

If the cart had been overflowing with crates of beer and it had been going downhill then it would have enough force to do that, we all know how hard they are to steer sometimes (well all the time lol.)

Ok, that's my wife's foot in that picture before you all start cracking jokes!!!!

I took a closer look last night and unfortunately the dor jamb has been pulled open from the impact. I think it's going to take a lot of time and effort by a body shop to make it look right and flawless like it did.

I'm going to get estimates tomorrow, and will also be getting estimates for an entire paintjob to inlcude cleaning up the hatch (from teh spoiler removal), removing a few door ding dents, and possibly shaving the door handles and front marker lights.

Here's something for everyone though: You know that polish system I used on Saturday that I posted the after pics from??? This little incident is a testament to how protective it is. The paint isn't even scratched. There's some swirl mark type scratches, but no gouges or anything.

Estimates are in: $1400 to $1500 in damages between the crease on the door and the 1/4 panel dent. Now......

For another $2300 we can have the entire car repainted (anything that bolts on comes off, all glass out, weatherstripping and trim out, front and rear bumpers removed, rockers removed, mirrors removed, hatch and hood removed), all dents removed, and hatch holes from spoiler patched and welded. Gotta think about that one though because we just simply may not have the money for it right now. Going to talk with the wife tonight and go from there. Hoping to have it in the shop next week.

before you go all out with the repair bills... why dont you try to fix it on your own? the paint isint chiped at all, so all you have to do is pop out the dent. you can try a suction cup, or you can remove the interrior plastics and push it out from the inside of the car.. if you mess up, then who cares... you can always pay to have it fixed.

Because I'd rather not possibly make things worse. The shop that we're having the work done explained it exactly as I thought, that the metal is stretched and by simply trying to pop it back out more it would cause more stretch and be harder to fix overall. Besides, we're not paying the damage bill!!

you might as well try to push it out or use a suction cup because isn't the repair shop just gonna do that and then try to fix whatever damage that causes afterwards... or did they explain some other way they would repair it?

They're going to use head to shrink the metal back into place. Bill (guy doing the work) showed me the machine he uses. It attaches and heats the metal to the point of tightening back into place, and then he mallets it as close as possible, then body fills and blocks any leftover depressions. That's a brief synopsis at least.

A friend does paintless dent repair and clearbra for hoods and the like. Very well respected. He did a job on a show Viper that has won awards for the paint and finish.


I believe he is in Florida for business for the week. And supposed to be on the east cost alot in the next month.
