gas mileage tips! Options

Hello I was surfing the internet the other night as my parents informed me that they were going to try acetone in their gas tank for better mileage. Apparently there friends had tried it and it helped. While searching I came across some very informative websites. They claim to have ways to significantly increase your mileage. I am particularily interested in the (Fogger) product as I have read in the past that heating up the gas for better burning can improve mileage. I wouldn't mind trying one but I am stuck out on the road and will only get home once a year

Wow, these 5sfe's realy need a boost is gas milage. My friend puts this stuff in his intrepid, he sais it realy works. Has anyone else actually tried it?

really, the 5s isn't that good on gas???! thats shocking. My 7a-fe is phenominal on gas, although I'm not opposed to making it even better. I'd be interested in trying the warming fogger.

guys please dont fall for some of these additive scams. i was watching a whistle blower report where they went to mechanics and tested the products meant to increase gas mileage they came up with no significant change on the studies. they tested the pill, the liquid additive, and even that tornado thing you put in your intake, some cars it made it lose productivity...be wary of those things....

Just to add my 2 cents on new products and gas mileage. There are alot of gimics out there just trying to make money. But you have to remember one product on one car does not always produce the same results on another vehicle for various reasons. Don't dismiss something based on only one test, look for various tests from numerous people vehicles etc. then you can establish an accurate estimate of a products success ratio. I know it sounds like alot of b.s.
-The reason I listed the fogger specifically is that I have run across people who have invented similar systems to improve mileage on there own vehicles and did this with a high level of success, all of these systems involved heating up the gas before it entered the combustion chamber plus this person has been tinkering with fuel and economics for the last 50 years if he is telling the truth. I don't see why he wouldn't be as he lists both his home phone number and e-mail to contact him with any questions. Seems fairly legit to me.

I'd actually try this stuff myself but I am stuck out on the road and can't so I thought someone might find it worth their time.

-you really have to do some serious reading to see how involved this person is into this subject and cause of improving gas mileage.

to be honest....i put sea foam in my crankcase (oil), gastank and suck it up in my pcv valve at least every 2 months and it works!! cleans everything out!

Sea foam is great. I have used ATFin fuel and in the crankcase. It seems to work as well in cleaning, but can cause converters to plug.

Make sure you have a current tune up, as in spark plugs, cap/rotor.
SOME engine cleaners will work very well in cleaning out your engine.
Sucess also of course depends on how clean the engine is to begin with.
The cleaner it is, the less difference cleaning it will make....
Seafoam works very well.
BG makes a VERY good product as well, but I believe they are only available professionally.

A clean air filter and fuel filter will help also.

If you have a auto trans, cleaning up the trans will help a bit, depending on current condition.

Check your brakes.
If the calipers are frozen/semi frozen, they will lower mileage. Drums really never drag, unless they are way out of adjustment, so you are probably good there.

Make sure you have the correct air pressure in the tires. Higher than recommended will raise mileage, but will increase wear and decrease handling.
One note on this. Recommended cold pressure is NOT the max pressure that is rated on the side of the tire.
It will be either in the glove box or on the sticker in the dr door jam. Or in your owners manual.

As far as plug wires and O2 sensors.
Autocrap says to replace WAY too frequently.
There is no need to automatically replace either.
Nothing wrong with it, except hurting your wallet.
If they went bad that fast, Toyota would recommend replacing them as part of a service....
Trust me, they LOVE to take your $$$$.



One more note, just to make you economy engined folks less happy.
The FE engines [at least the older ones, I havn't checked for the newer 5SFE and such] fire TWO injectors at once. One inj fires into the open cyl, using the fuel. The other fires into a closed valve, wasting fuel. This cuts down cost for the ecu, but lowers mileage due to extra fuel being wasted.
The GE engines don't.

Just another reason to swap.
