so yea, over a year later..i finally broke down and bought a wideband. lol
i figured it'd be nice to actually tune the car off boost...lmao rather than just adjusting things by feel..lol i knew i wanted somthing that had datalogging capabilitys, so i started looking around at some of the units out there... since i did not need a display, (ill be using a laptop for display and datalogging) i ended up getting the Zetronix unit, because it includes datalogging capabilitys, with A/F, RPM, TPS, (all included with no extras to buy) and can also log EGTs (it comes with a pigtail to make an extension if you already have one, or you can buy the probe from them) and boost. the sensor range is 9.5:1 - 21:1 it does have an optional display,so that you can have a standalone display setup, if thats what you want/need. heres a pic of everything you get when you order the unit. heres a screenshot of the logging/display screen. ill have some datalogs and more screenshots for you guys later this week. -------------------- Former Team 5SFTE pro member ;)

(its all tapped in with quick connects) i'll use it to tune, setup my 50/50mix submap then pull it out and reinstall the stock o2. installed the unit this afternoon, just the info gathered on the ride from my moms to my house is amazing, and i didnt even have the TPS hooked up. heres a quick screenshot of what my idle A/F ratio looks like: ill upload a few more tonight or tommorow AM after the wifey and i go out for a ride later -------------------- Former Team 5SFTE pro member ;)

Glad to see you got the Zeitronix. That is the one that I was looking at and seemed to have a lot of logging capabilities with a nice display.
Hope it works out for you and I may look at that one down the road. -------------------- |

just got back from doing a little more logging...ill add a few pics later, but the basic idea is that i am kinda on the lean side everywhere between 15-50% throttle.
having this data really shows where the SAFCII is lacking for our applications, because your a/f ratio is much more throttle position based than it is rpm based. i can do some very basic things with the SAFC as far as the points at which the hi and low throttle maps kick in and such, but really tuning for load points like we should be doing is basicly non exsistant with the SAFC. now i REALLY understand why guys like noshoes and john reed wont even touch cars with these types of units on them..lol -------------------- Former Team 5SFTE pro member ;)

heres a screenshot of a 2-5th WOT run...ignore the TPS #s, i tapped in after the SAFC, so im reading the "corrected" signal from the TPS.
another thing i am learning is that there is some truth to the rumor that tailpipe sniffers typicly read 1-2 points leaner than a wideband in the DP. looks like i've got lots of tuning still to do, as well as setting all of my 50/50 race fuel map, as it requires a diffrent A/F than the pump fuel. -------------------- Former Team 5SFTE pro member ;)

so what I'm beginning to understand around here, is that for a swap you go to Tweak, and for tuning, it's all presure

QUOTE(zipstrips @ Sep 12, 2006 - 6:48 PM) thats a fancy kit you got manny! i have innovate's but i didnt splurge on the add-ons.. yet zip: this is the bare-bones jones version of the zietronix...there are quite a few sweet add ons, tho..i bought this particular one because of the dataloging features with the RPM and TPS inputs being included in the base setup for 279$, and you can add EGT for 19$ more if you already have the probe (which i do). for a guy like you, with the swap, somthing like the innovative, with a display is a nice setup, cause you dont really need the datalogging features. one really cool option for the tech guys out there is the ZT-2 can datalog right into a palm pilot. to be honest, i dont really know ALL the details of it, cause i dont have one, and dont have any plans on getting one, but it did seem REALLY cool by the quick read thru i gave it when looking at the diffrent brands out there. -------------------- Former Team 5SFTE pro member ;)

naa, not really dustin...just been doing some minor tweeks here and there, the damn SAFCII is a peice of worthless junk IMO.
you know from our conversations, exactly what im talking about...lol just the whole way it manipulates the ecu is just bad when it comes to our cars boosted. i mean, dont get me wrong, the car runs good, and the SAFCII has helped with that, but, its really so crude, you can only do a very limited part of the big picture with it. for you guys that may or may not have any experience with the safcII, basicly it allows you to change the fuel on 2 different levels. you have a "hi-throttle" map, and a "lo-throttle" map. you have 12 selectable rpm points for each map. meaning, you can select which rpms you want to change your fueling at, X12. once you have that set, then you can choose where your "lo" and "hi" throttle points are. basicly, you choose that by selecting a throttle position for each. for example, IIRC the stock settings have it set at 30% for lo and 70% for hi. what that means is that @ any point below 30% throttle, the SAFC will use the "lo-throttle" settings, and at any point above 70% it will use the "hi" in between, the SAFC interpolates. so basicly the SAFC gives you a 2X12 map, based on rpm. the problem with that is that at any given rpm, i can be @ WOT, or barely touching the gas, and all the safc knows is under 30, or over 70. i can build boost @ under 30% throttle...so, i can be boosting, using my lo thottle maps, which is normally tuned much leaner, which is bad. thats the main reason im wanting to switch over to the emanage ultimate, cause of how much more control ill have with it. instead of a 2x12 map, you have a 12x12 map. so instead of having just a lo and hi tuning point, you have 12 different load points to tune with, which will give me a much smoother fuel curve, and that means more hp, just from tuning, and a better running, more fuel efficent car, on, and off boost. -------------------- Former Team 5SFTE pro member ;)

manny, iv read a thread somewhere were this guy hooked the safc up so instead of reading throttle postion it read boost lvls and now instead of tuning with throttle position it tunes to boost pressure and rpm. it was on a 3sgte 2. bar map sensor also. they have close to the same sensor voltages. 0. - 5volts, its just a potenteometer, iunno. /shrug
giving you a 30 70 high and low boost. or w/e you set it to. http://www.alltrac.net/mods/boostedSAFC.html here you go buddy, check that out. maybe it will suite you better. who knows. This post has been edited by x_itchy_b_x: Oct 16, 2006 - 4:44 PM -------------------- |

they do that cause its normally wired to the AFM.
in my case, its already wired to the map. the hi lo throttle points are selectable, just like the RPM points. -------------------- Former Team 5SFTE pro member ;)

but it makes correction now according to boost not throttle. wouldnt you rather have that?
im only familiar with the safc1, does the 2 already have a boost feature? This post has been edited by x_itchy_b_x: Oct 16, 2006 - 5:13 PM -------------------- |
