So I have been at this temp job for about 1 month and 1/2 now and The place is becoming more and more and more boring everyday. I really don't do anything and most of the time I just spend it on doing meaninglesss task over and over. I'm Actually a Personal Assistant to the Engineer who runs the place, but my pay is really at the Minimum wage while my work? Is doing Electrical Wiring, Computer repairs, and High tech stuff.
I feel like Im used so Im quitting on the spot tomorrow, by not showing up. Any Ideas or suggestions like if I should call in and say I quit, or just don't show up for the next few days?

I think what you should say is "I ****ing quit"

short, sweet, and to the point.

naw but seriously, tell em you dont like being used, so your going to a job that will pay you more and where your work doesnt go unnoticed.

ask your immediate supervisor if you can talk to him for a few minutes, and tell him what you told us--basically, that you feel that you're overworked and underpaid, and that you think that you might be moving in a different direction. if you've been doing a good job and working hard, he/she might be willing to either offer you a raise or diversify your workload.

you have to present it positively, though. you can't just storm in and bitch. done that, doesn't work.

if you really just want to quit, find another job first, and then quit however you'd like. just remember that burning the bridge will disallow you from using this experience on your resume and/or getting recommendations out of them in the future.

not showing up is the worst thing you could do right now, so just think it through before you do something that drastic.

hope that helps.

i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this.

don't burn your bridges, don't just ever not show up.

give em your two weeks notice, tell em you found something else more suitable for your talents.

either that, or try talking to your boss and letting him know that you aren't being used to your fullest capacity. i mean, you bitch about the job but i haven't seen you say anything about how they don't want you to do more.

Not showing up for work is how you quit at McDonnalds.

If you want to quit, explain why and give your two weeks notice.

They'll either say: "Sorry it's not working out. Thanks for your time."

or

"What might we be able to do (within reason) to retain you?"

And when you do leave, you'll have references there in the future. If you call or just stop going, then you can never use that job for anything. No reference, no expierence, nothing.

well i worked at mcdonalds =P

id say since its a temp job, its no big deal unless you have a chance to become permanent.

also, maybe u should start looking for another job before you quit. or maybe you can turn in your two week notice and start looking and by the time you find one, you have another job.

Hey I am a recruiter and I specialize in finding people jobs and I deal with companies all the time and they network with each other alot. You are currently a Temp, and let me tell you that when you quit you want to do it professionally. IF you do it wrong, you'll have a hard time finding a job because people know other people at different companies and word will get around.

Heres the best way,
1) Talk to your boss and be honest and open about what you are feeling. Be calm no matter what he/she says. They might just not realize whats going on.
2) If nothing changes, then be professional and write a letter and give 2 weeks. And GO for 2 weeks. It will show class and you never know when you might work with that organization/ supervisors again. It really is a small world.
3) Be positive about your experiences and what you learned there. ( you did learn something)

Agree, profesional advice, no doubt... thumbsup.gif

p.s.: you have nothing to loose (you decided leave already), so first speak, then act...

I would always give a 2 weeks notice, but once I didn't. I had a job doing vinyl siding and the guy continuously we call and say that he'd call me at 9, then end up calling at like 10 and say we'll meet at the job at 12. So one time he did it too much so when he called and said he'd call me at 9 and called back at 9:30, I told him I am working just not for him wink.gif, but he burned me alot while I worked for him. I mean I could write a 2 to 3 page essay on the crap he did to me all in 4 months of work. He never even showed up on the job in time. Once we started at 8 o'clock and he showed up at 11. So all I did was sit there and wait for him. I got paid for it so I didn't mind biggrin.gif

a lot of times, in jobs like these, if you give them two weeks notice and tell them that its because you don't feel like you're doing anything useful, places will let you leave much sooner...I spent a summer hiring workers for a construction company and we needed people to start within 3 days, and most of them were able to quit their previous jobs without creating bad relationships once they explained that they were going to get paid more, have better hours, etc. etc...

I quit working at a restaurant once, and I'm so glad that I gave notice and kept the relationship good, because last summer I really needed some cash and they hired me back for a few weeks...I hated working but I was so poor I didn't care, lol

You could just keep your job...getting paid to do nothing sounds like a bargin to me....I wish I could get paid to sit on my arse...we all have to start somewhere, you can swop with me if you want and work 14 hour days every day, and have only one day off every two weeks......one of my first jobs I spent two years washing up an the hottest kitchen ever working my ass off till way beyond midnight, bored out of my skull......a few years later I was the head chef and the boss...dont quit unless you have something better to go to , plus you never know whats in stall for you.
Its much easier to get a job when you have a job aswell, for some strange reason...imagine not finding work for 6 months and having to sell things like your car to make ends meet.

Do something off your own bat...prove to them that you are capable of doing so much more...you might get a transfer or something.

Already done most of tat and even worked 19 hrs with less then 5 hours of sleep for 2 weeks straight. Even tho I can do the job better than anyone else, this is a company that does not give a 5hit about promotions nor pay. Its all about how long you have been there being there bitach and slave. Well, anyways I quit today when I called in and told them it was just a waste of my time being there and there time.
Now, Im gonna start a computer business.
