Hey guys. I really need help with this one. I've been working at it for a while I can't seem to find a solution. So to all you technicians out there, please please help me out with this. Thanks in advance. Okay, I bought a neon kit from Autozone, the one where you plug it into the cigarette lighter and it has the on and off button on it. laugh.gif Well I wanted to mount it to the rear so I went ahead and mounted it and it looks great. But then I noticed that the cord can't reach the cigarette lighter so I cut the cord. Now I have 2 wires with both the same color. Isn't it suppose to be one is negative and the other is positive? I tried hooking them up to my AMP's neg and pos outputs for the speakers, becuz I thought it would have power from the main battery, but that didn't work. So now, I'm stuck. I'm thinking about running both wires to the main batter in the engine bay while trying to figure out which one is positive and negative. Will that work? Becuz I know in order for the lights to work, they can be turned on and off by the switch on the bar but it needs power. Does anyone know how to make this work?

UPDATE: (10/19/06)
Thanks to everyone who posted information on how this worked. I've found out that there is a DIFFERENCE between the two wires. One had a tiny white line on the wire to show that it is positive. I've also found out later after wiring everything that the buttons on the neon lights were not the transformer. They were the Pulse/No Pulse buttons and Sensitivity buttons. So, I basically wired it up straight to the battery and left it on PULSE. So that way, it doesn't use any battery since it's ON all the time. I don't have a transformer and I don't plan on getting one becuz it was a 4 hour installation and as a big hassle. So... LoL. Enjoy my lights guys.

is yoru amp on at all?.....

or maybe did u still have the transformer part?.....its extremely crucial to cut it near the cig lighter end if u wanna connect it to a power source......is yoru amp on if your ign is on?.....try wiring it to one of the 12v source.....in this case, try to wire it to yoru power antenna for constant power......

or you could run the neon to the little light in your astray. its a good 12v source and it will only come one when your lights are on.

The speaker outputs are NOT 12v. To figure out which wire is which connect them straight to the battery. It should only light up when you have it right.

You can get power from the amps power inputs not the speaker outputs, but you might cause some noise in the sound system from the neon's transformer.. Just get some butt splices and some wire and extend as much as you need to reach the cig lighter.

Alright thanks guys. So I guess I'm gonna have to buy some red wires and blue wires and wire them straight to the battery. The transformer is *on* the neon lights [transformer]==================[]. So I guess its time to give it power. I didn't know it had to be 12V. Thanks guys.

You don't have to go straight to the battery. I just recommended it for testing. If you do go from the batt you'll need a switch or they will stay on all the time.

i noticed on some of the neons I had the wire itself was the same color, but the wire coating were differnet. One had a while line tracer to show the positive.

if you want to wire it to a 12V source that will turn off when the car is off, do what i did. Go to Autozone and get this thing called a "add a circuit". i then plugged that into my wiper blade fuse spot by my steering wheel. then just run the wired to your neons. will always go on adn off with the car then.

Split both the wires and cut the insulation off of them, following that ground one of the wires and hook the other wire up to your powerwire of your amp. That is what i did for my nitrous bottle heater. You could even use the rear strut bolt as a ground.

You could also hook the positive wire of the neon up to your REM wire on your amp. This way, your neons will only have power when your in radio/amp is on. But i guess w/e works. Good job smile.gif

You could of ran your neons from you power wire that goes to ur amp, by running a relay with your blue(amp turn of wire) so that your neons would turn on only when your system is on. This would be much easier and use way less wires + less work smile.gif
