A local shop is going to get back to me on custom exhaust prices from the header back and cat back. I have a 7afe and was wondering what gains i'd get from a complete header back? I know cat back is mostly for sound and looks with little gains on our "economy" cars, but will headers and all give me a noticable difference?

I'd say so. when i got my headers on, i could tell a difference considering our engines are so crappy with HP from the start lol. its worth it though and sounds wicked awesome man. go for it. i think i got around 10-15 HP from the cat and headers

I have yet to get my Headers in after my next project which is TEIN Stech Lowering Springs. So I'm looking forward to a more powerful sound considering my car sounds aggressive already. Quote: "Jason: Your car sounds turbo'd. Just missing the woosh sound."

I have a just a header, hi-flow cat and a straight through muffler and I notice it. I would recomend turning that short ram into a cold air intake though. Good luck and let us know your opinion when you get the setup.

Whats the benefit of having a cold air intake over my short ram? I used to have one but it was placed where road crap would hit it so i was constantly cleaning it. So thats why I've gone with my short ram. if there is an actual benefit I'll look into positioning it again in a different spot.

So thats why I've gone with my short ram. if there is an actual benefit I'll look into positioning it again in a different spot. the benefit of having a cold air intake is that it actually does something good for your car. if you think about it... your short ram is sucking as much air as your cold air but the difference is that ur ram air is just sucking in all the hot air that is collected in ur engine bay so your not really getting anything but a cool sound. but cold air goes down into the bumper away from all the engine heat to suck in actual COLD AIR. hence the name.... so even though cold air may be more expensive its definately worth it. you will actually get horsepower gains rather than just a sound. which is wut ur going for i presume with your header-back instead of cat-back exhaust set up. |

when driving at speed air is sucked through the engine bay constantly and is only 1-3 degrees warmer than the air outside the car. when stopped air is still moving through due to convection, a cai doesnt make that large of a difference. hell just pull the snorkel to the air box and you have the worlds cheapest short ram.

Even when your engine has been running for a while, esp if you have stainless/chrome intake tubes. The tubing will get extremely hot due to the vast amount of heat in the engine bay and thus making the cold air warmer while traveling through the piping. I'm thinking of going cold air. I'm just lazy to put the effort and money into it. But when I do, I'm gonna 'ceramic coat' my intake pipes. LoL.

what you need is a roof scoop and an intake that runs down the passenger cabin and through the firewall!

Thats one crazy idea, has anyone done this or seen it? Not that i'm going to because thats too extreme in my opnion but def interesting to see

If your worried about the intake tubing heating up they have a "blanket" from DEI that you use to wrap around the tubing kind of like exhaust wrap that will keep the intake cool. I do not have this but I felt an instant change when I installed my CAI. I don't know about a SRI but I could try it to see the difference. I know that when it gets hot outside I can tell the difference in performance in comparison to when it is below 80 degrees. |

I cut out my high beam... Put screen in front of it so it looks like a light, ran a pipe that is soon to be funneled down from the actual highbeam size, to where my short ram is. I put a plastic tube around it to keep a little heat out, (probably not much) and I figure its ramming colder air while im driving fast and just taking in regular engine temperature air when im going slow. I like it, and I have to say that it doesnt look bad with the custom grill.
BTW! I am getting all of my exhaust in on friday. I already have my muffler. but I am replacing the header, both cats (cali spec I guess) and ditching the resonator. I hope to see some sort of increase. I'll let you know what it feels like when im done. However I have just disconvered a dying transmission. -------------------- |

when i bought my car all it had was a welded on muffler, and its not that loud, what would a full cat back run me u think?

Well that guy hasn't called me back so I am def calling him tomorow. I also prefer lights so i can see the road at night... imo. What size exhaust are you getting n1ckz0r? def let me know how your car feels after the exhuast get put on and hopefully your transmission survives testing. I assume a cat back should only run you a couple hundred and a complete header back up to say $800 i believe at most, but prices can up up from there if you want stainless or a special muffler i would believe.

actaully I got the headers on ebay for 100 shipped... and the cat 60 shipped... and the muffler 90 shipped from a local performance shop. I am getting it installed at a local muffler shop. for 200. Soa bout 240+200 install about 440... thats not bad! Everything I got I got at 2.25"! I am so excited thats like .25 inches larger!!! SO AWESOME! and plus im ditching both cats for 1 highflow one!
