I put some 3-2-1 headers on bout 2 weeks ago. We also removed cat and placed a gutted one. I would of assumed i would be getting better gas mileage. but Im accually down 100 miles per tank. We did reset the ECU, via pulling the battery cable for 10 minutes. Shouldn't I get better mileage by at least like 1mpg or something or is this common? I have the 7afe so It might differ from the 5s.

Also I dono if this might be a cause but, I installed an auto meter A/F raito gauge its not reading. I currently have no Check Engine Light. But Since my light isn't on my O2 Sesor should be fine. Its only abour 3 months old. Am i right?

my last question depends on the answer to #2
did you install the AF meter correctly?

thats not the correct way to reset your ecu either..after pulling the battery cable off, theres 2 or 3 fuses you need to pull out

removing the battery cable is just fine, all you need to do is interrupt power to the PCM for a period of time. pulling the fuse achieves the same result, just wont have to reprogram the radio afterwards.

did this happen after you installed the AF meter? Also, did you replace the AF meter in the new header? Check your plugs, I bet they are fowled by excess fuel.

getting less miles per tank is expected.

more flow = better performance
better performance = worse mileage

you'd think that, but the header actually works towards increasing VE by increasing scavenging which pulls more burnt gasses out and fresh charge in during valve overlap. the impact on fuel mileage should be negligible. i've noted NO change in my mileage despite a sharp jump in high rpm performance.

FallenHero: I installed the A/F Meter and the 4-2-1 header the same day. So I have not a clue. I just changed my spark plugs, took a drive down to the store, suddenly the Meter started to work somewhat. Light was on yet it was boucing like crazy from lean to rich and back and forwth.

Bitter: Yes I blieve I did. 2 Wire Heated Sensor, connected to the white wire on the O2. Ground and Power.

Batman: Thats not entirely true. Unless your just talking about headers. Ex: CAI

what kind of meter? the jumping all over is normal for a cheap**** narrowband guage :lol:

yep, the cheap-**** guage. its utterly useless for anything other than an annoying blinking light and padding the sellers wallet. you probably messed up something when you installed it, underhood at the diagnostic port probe OX1 and TE1 with a DMM and report the voltage readings.

My friend was telling me if I set the cat back on I should get a significatly get more MPG. Correct?
