hey guys. i just recently bought a rear lip. i plan to by front splitters soon to complete the look (already got factory sideskirts). anyways, i plan on doing everything myself. im gonna paint it myself and install it myself. its a self pride kinda thing. i dont want anyone else doing anything to my car. plus its expensive laugh.gif

anyways, im not sure what paints i should use, how many coats to use etc. if anyone could give me a guide or a few pointers it would be very helpful. i tried using the search function here but it didnt turn out so well for me....

i would go to a body shop n ask if they can get u some factory paint in gallons....if they cant, jus go to any paint mixer store that matches paint....u can google that but ive lost the website where order it from....ive bought 4 cans for the front lip, side skirts, n rear extensions......and couple cans of uv clear coat n belive me its not cheap.....runs me down to about $150....and dont forget to get some sandpaper.......more specific 1500 grits, 2000 grits.....because of the nature of the fiberglass...im pretty sure the lip u bought is already primered n ready for paint....if not, grab some more sandpaper from 600 grits n above......sand it lightly til its smooth, going from 600, then gradually going up, primer it n start on yoru base coat, i did 3 coats, wetsand with 1500 grit sandpaper, then 2000 grit, finally sprayed the clear coat on......covered the parts with rubbing compund and waxed it with some $25 wax i bought at advance...preferably meguairs......hope this helps a little...

anbody else got any tips?....i did it only a few times after reading coomer's post on his yellow coupe

hey, thanks for the help, but i was wondering, you bought 4 cans total for all the parts? and im guessing these are the 12 ounce spray cans right?

also is there anything i can do to the lip itself to strenghen it or anything like that?

The first thing I did when I wanted to paint my car was buy a book and go from there. From what the book says is not to use lacquers, which is what is in most spray cans, it doesn't hold up well no matter how many coats you put. I don't have any experience painting body parts with spray cans but I did buy a gravity feed gun. And I can tell you that I made a mistake using lacquer as a primer, because know the paint is chipping off. I would advise spending the money you have to, to get good quality paint or you'll just end up repainting.
