removing driveaxle, help |

im trying to remove the driver side drive axle from the transmission and it wont budge. its a 95 st, 7a-fe 1.8L. i already removed the axle from the hub but cant get it out of the transmission. it will move a little bit in and out of the transmission but nowhere close to coming out. is it bolted down somewhere? or is there a clamp thats holding it in or should i just try and pry it out. im afraid of breaking something if its still being held in by something.

i went to autozone and rent myself a puller, it has a slide hammer. took it home and gave it 2 tug and it just pop right out. hope this help. good luck

The right side has a locking ring on it, and it can be a pain to remove. If you can get something to jerk on it suddenly, it will eventually come out.

What I meant you could do is after you have removed the passenger side axle, stick a screwdriver through the transmission and use a hammer to beat on the axle. Make sure the screwdriver is skinny enough to clear the shaft that goes between the axles. While someone does that, have someone jerk on the axle, just make sure not to pull on the CV joint.

and that wont damage the locking ring on the driver side axle?

No, It won't hurt the locking ring. Just make sure you are hitting square on the axle, and you are going to have to hit it firmly in order to compress the ring so it can slide out.

i took the axle out of the passenger hub and it is doing the same thing as the driver side hub, it wont come out. other people have told me that it should slide out easily after unboltig two bolts but its not coming out easily and im not exactly sure which bolts need to come out. any suggestions?

why not try my way? The slide hammer will help you better with a jerk rather than using your own force. It's free rent and easy to do.

Be careful. My friend royally screwed up the Diff on his AE92 by not using the correct tool. Always leaked after that and had to be filled regularly. The smell of that fluid is still haunting me to this day.

Im about to change my passenger side driveaxle im hoping not to run into crazy problems. What are the suggestions/precautions to take when doing this procedure?

you will need a press to swap the axle carriers.. before that you'll need a relatively large pair of snap ring pliers to get the snap ring off from the carrier bearing.. or if you have a set of small picks and a small flat screwdriver you can do it without snap right pliers, but that will take some skill .

That ring comes out way easy with a screw driver. Just work it out little by little prying on it.

Should just pry out. Get a good pry bar to pry between the tranny and the axle from under the car, will come right out with a little force. It's not all that complicated.
