i have been looking around and i got the paint to paint the inserts in my car, the vents and power window things and all that good stuff but i cant figure out if i need to use clear coat or not. i know if i want a glossy look i should but i cant figure out what the real difference is

clearcoat will keep the paint from being damaged. It also keeps it from cracking and flaking/peeling off.

If you haven't picked out paint yet, I would suggest a brand called "Testors". Presure2 painted his dash pieces with this brand and I like it a lot. You can find it at a hobby shop that would sell model cars and such.

Painting mine today. Started the primer coat and the first two coats of paint before work. Letting them dry, then light sanding and overlapping with a brighter white (most likely testors) and clear coating it. I'll post pics later.

any paint will work really, the pieces don't get abused any via twisting or such so crazy quality paint isn't needed...

its pretty much go with what you like

who has the color you want, whats available

but clearcoating not only protects but it gives a nice shine smile.gif

I forgot what it is called but there really is interior paint for vinyl. Sure it looks nice glossy but it don't look OEM.

kinda crappy shot, but the paint job itself only took a few hours. Got some real quick drying paint and only did a light clear coat for protection... I kinda like it flat.

I'm gonna finish up the interior pieces this weekend if I get a chance.

let the base dry before you clear coat it, or it will be really spotty and poor looking

The Krylon fusion works real well.

I painted my interior pieces with it and it came out real good.
