Guys i need your help..
As some of you know i have a 5sgte in my 6gc. To get the most from this engine i wanna pump over 20psi up its ass and thrash the hell out of it down the 1/4 mile. Is there a Straight cut gear set for the front wheel drive standard box.?????? I know Tufy is building one but thats the 4wd. Anyone know if the set will fit from that....???? Anyone have part numbers and pics of an open box...???? Will i have to get it custom make...????? (maybe) Cheers for any help..... Rik -------------------- 312whp with more to come.... |

If you run with an E153 transaxle then theoreticly yes, you'll be able to use the gears tufy is having made.

What kind of axles you running? For a drag car, the axles are going to take one heck of beating especially with some rock crusher gears. I can't say I wouldn't love some strate cuts, but I know I don't have the power for them to be of much use. I just want to hear them wine.

hks makes a straight-cut dog engagement non-sequential for the 3sgte. i'm not sure what pressure plate/flywheel combo you would need to run that...it's probably hella pricey, too.

what is the power that you are running now? straight gears are stronger then helical gears and can handle much more power. but you can also run with semi helical gears made from better material and they are more confortable.
straight cut gears will not give you any advantage on drag races. you must have dog engegments so you can shift w/out clucth very fast. but you have to service your gearbox every 5000-10000 kms. here is the company that i ordered gears they can build you custom gears and shaft with custom ratios that will fit your gearbox your . you can also have seq shifter for our cars from them. www.sqsracing.com mail them and say hello from me -------------------- |

I read that HKS makes a transmission for the MR2. You could always try and source that.

Tufy ... thanks for the address. I will have a look and get them to quote me something up. Im only running about 220whp on 8lb, no lsd at the moment in fear of smashing the box.

I would just try a locking differential in the S54 first. I bet it can handle a lot. No need to dump any more money than you have to into the car. btw, I would love a LSD for the S54, that was reasonably priced.
