I'm finally starting to get into doing a swap in the next couple years and i thought i should start studying and do some research first but i have already ran into questions from the very begining... I know i may frustrate someof you but please bare with me...
My question is basicly which engine to choose...

i want the JDM 2nd gen 3s (if i'm not wrong, isn't this the 225hp version?) but...

i know that the JDM will not pass emission for visual inspection because its missing a egr ... how can i go about this? Is there something i can add to make it pass? I want that extra 25 or so hp... so i rather get this one than the USDM one... I"m assuming the parts are interchangable correct?
or my other option is get the USDM one IF the parts from the USDM motor is not interchangable from the JDm one.

help me out guys

You probably won't find any USDM engine in good condition for sale.
Most of them that are removed from USDM cars are blown.
Actually, there is no difference between these 2 engines. (except the EGR)
The output of JDM engine is rated higher because it has more aggressive ECU and a little higher octane gasoline available in Japan.
The only thing you can add to pass the visual test is a $20 bill laugh.gif

you could add a usdm intake manifold on your jdm engine and hook up the egr system.

Is illinois doing visual inspection now when you go for emission testing? I guess I will have to change my plans to register my car there LOL?

Yes, but it will not be functional unless you drill a hole in the cylinder head.
Some places will check if the EGR valve is functional.

I might go with the JDM if its easier to get my hands on her...

Is the 3rd gen and 2nd gen parts interchangable like cams, clutch and what not?
