My window woes, :( Options

To fill everyone in, my Celi came with manual windows. The owner before myself had power windows installed. I assume everything was good, but then I found a receipt for replacement window regulators... and it was exspensive! My passenger window is already off the track - due to the lady friend closing the door by the corner of the window - and ever since I got the car I have had window issues.

for one - my pass. window off track, so it clunks and ticks as it goes up and down
My driver side window sometimes works, and sometimes doesn't. I press the button to roll the window down and it doesn't move. Only after I pound my door panel does it actually engage, and it makes little ticking noises as it goes up and down.

Is it possible for myself to put my window back on track? Are the ticking noises from bad window regulators?

From my experience with celica windows, you can put that window back onto the track. Just remove your inner door panel, pull off the plastic liner (without ripping), and then you should be able to see inside your door. There is a track on either side of the window, you just need to unbolt the track from the door frame itself, and then slip it back onto the window. I had to do that on my 99 civic a few times. As for the window not working 100% of the time, chances are the pins that are inside the switch assembly aren't quite contacting fully. you may have to pull the switch apart and bend the pins to the correct position.

Check you haven't got an earth fault as well - seen it loads of times where window won't work intermittantly or only go in one direction

Checking the switches is out of the question right now. They are mounted on the ashtray and it has been sealed shut. I have been trying to source power window door panels and reroute the switches to the doors, but no one has some for sale
