Would be better to put a kill switch on the ECU or fuel pump as the starter will only prevent them from using the key to start it. You can quite easily pop the hood and jumper the battery to the starter motor (provided you have turned the ignition on).
I forget the exact wire I put it on when I did it, but there is a wire going into the ECU that tells it you have turned the ignition on, put a kill switch on that and the ECU won't turn on even if you turn the key. |

ECU is on the floor under the middle of the dash. You get to the wiring from the passenger side.
It was about 3yrs ago that I did it so I don't remember which wire I did it too. If you can wait till the weekend I'll have a look for you. |
this wouldbe the black/yellow wire which you will find in the left kick panel area. this wire supplys power to the ecu.
so what hes saying is stiil in the center right............things should be pretty easy for me since car is gutted all thats left is top dash and driver seat and all wireing ............ and the wire that you were talking bout batman? what would be better? witch is witch or is it the same? -------------------- feedback feedback If I buy or sale please leave me feedback...thanks cheap, quick, reliable, pick two I treat my 6gc better then my own woman |

I think you're underestimating the knowledge of thieves. A starter kill, especially one wired into the [reasonably accessible] ignition harness wiring, is quite easy to bypass, at least most of the ones that I've seen. All you have to do in most cases is look for the non-stock wires, cut them, and touch them together.
Far more effective would be to kill power to the fuel pump or to one of ECU wires as praetor suggested. -------------------- New Toyota project coming soon...

You can make a kill switch for several different circuits. All you have to do is find a wire that the car cannot run while it is disconnected. For mine, I used the wire that runs from the igniter to the distributor. With the switch off, no electricity goes to the distributor or spark plugs. No spark, no running engine.

I would use the wiring diagram off a repair manual to help find the right wire. Once you know which wire to use, the rest is relatively easy. Like I said, I used the igniter wire for mine (by the way I haven't had any problems with backfire) but you could use any wire that will disable the engine.

if you wanna be safe man i'd get someone who knows what they're doing to help you out in person. not that i'm knocking at your ability, you just seem in question about wiring, and thats basically what this whole thing is about lol. so ask some friends! you don't want to mess anything up.

hum, hello, i 'am trying to make an anti thieft switch.
i found 2 diferent places from where i can "kill" the engine but im unable to detach the white conector to test wires.(the ones in the passenger door side, right under the glove compartment ,he is on a plastic part, and theres a relay there). someone can tell me how to do it? (thus im quite tall, so it is quite difficult to get him corectly) btw, just unplugging the first conector under the middle of the dash disallow engine start.
