hey guys, i contacted VIS about making a custom carbon fiber hood for the 94-99, it would be styled after the TRD Supra hood, with the four vents in it... so imagine a OEM style hood for our 6th gen with these vents in it.

user posted image

this GB is, once again, personally motivated, i need a vented hood for my turbo kit, but i think this would look amazing on any 6th gen.

i've enquired about it, and we need 15 people, i've also asked about pricing, waiting to hear back from them.

if you are interested, please post, any questions, let me know, contact info is in my sig.

coomer, if this is in the worng forum, just kick it to where it should be.

I SHOULD clarify, this will not be through importfan, this will be directo from VIS, i just used a pic from importfan.

I'd love to have a vented carbon fiber hood with that design, assuming the price isn't too bad. smile.gif I'm very, very interested.

Don't care what the price is I want it. I changed my mind recently and decided to keep my Celica...for financial reasons mostly. A VIN code that comes up as turbo isnt friendly on insurance premiums nor car payemnts...but a 3sgte swap and upgrading celi is. I want it.

a lot of those are depedent on the price...i'm getting one, but i won't have the money til mid september...so i'm hopin that it will still be udner construction by then.

personally, it'd be nice to wait that long, and either get a gauranteed 2nd wave of production (2x15 *charlie's idea*) or, take orders, and let the people depedent on the price save up for about a month.

but then again, that's just so i'm pretty much guaranteed to get this hood... tongue.gif

Thanks for the great response!

Shout out to John (Mynzeyes) whose many crazed ramblings about a "phatty bad-ass 6th gen TRD vented hood" were the inspiration for this project attempt. smile.gif now you won't have to take a hacksaw to your stocker, John biggrin.gif

ok guys, 500 per hood with 15 definites. shipping is about 100 bucks, depending on where you are in the US, they can ship 2 hoods together for a reduction in price. let's start a list of definites. please put your email and IM name down so i can contact you if i have to.

1) Charlie97L meincl0@wfu.edu Darhgo

guys, please DON'T contact VIS about this, let's just leave that to me, i don't want them to feel harassed. if we get 15 they WILL make the hood.

any questions, you know where to reach me. smile.gif

For $500 plus shipping I'm down for sure! I already wanted a carbon fiber hood, and it's so so much better with the TRD-style vents! Plus, VIS hoods have good fitment from what I hear.

hey charlie...is this hood specially made for this group buy? or are they gonna continue to make em??  and if they do continue to make em, how much would they cost if it were NOT bought in a group buy?

it's specifically for the buy, they consider it a customization, not a new product, and they would not continue to make them.

it will be very good quality, VIS makes great stuff.

i'll see what i can find out about the time frame.

as for when you need the money, as soon as we have 15 people we're going, so however long that takes.

it looks like they are in Monterey Park, CA, i'll ask about pickups, but i'm sure you can.

Sorry guys but I gotta take my name off the list frown.gif I did some math and I cant afford to pay $600 for a hood at the moment...... I thought I was for sure able to but I guess not. Maybe when I have the money I will try to start another GB for this same thing... you think VIS would do that?

I can ask, but again, i doubt the demand would be significant enough to do it. i think your best bet if you want it, is find 15 people like yourself, who really want it but don't have the $$ now, and set up a 2nd round. i can do all the communication with them again later to make things easier, but that's an idea.

NEW INFO!

all hoods need to be paid in full in advance. after he has all the payments, 7-9 weeks to produce the hoods and customizing. he said the long time was because when they customize something they want it to be to the level of their normally produced products, which is good for us! yay! after they are done, he gets them and ships them in 2-3 days from the shop, and it takes 5-7 business days to send them to us.

so cal guys are welcome to pick up the hoods, i'll get the addy for you when the time gets closer.

post ?s! lets get those last people we need so we can get this ball rollin'!

Yep. It just means that VIS is going to do a quality job though and not rush this through. smile.gif

Charlie, the hoods are going to have carbon fiber that wraps around the edges, right? Most hoods these days do, but I'm just making sure. wink.gif

Once we get fifteen people who will for sure buy this hood. Also, your list isn't accurate and doesn't include some of the latest members who joined. wink.gif

And to NEVERSTOP, I'd rather have a TRD-style carbon fiber hood than a GT-Four-style carbon fiber hood. I think it'll look so sweet, and won't make the front of the car look too busy. smile.gif

Just a couple of questions before I add my name.

1. Who do we actually pay the money to?

2. If the GB falls apart for some reason... how do we get our money back? Are there any guarentees/Insurance? (Reason for this is I have seen GB's on other sites go pear shape and people loose thier money)

3. Has ne one used these guys for custom stuff before?

4. With the vents... would they cause any problems in wet weather? (Remember... the UK ain't as sunny as the US)

5. How much would shipping be to the UK?

6. Would the hood fit a UK spec 6g celica?

Look forward to your comments/answers.

1. Your money would go to Charlie97L.

2. You would get your money back, but it won't fall apart, as Charlie always follows through with his group buys. He's very, very reputable and is a moderator on Celica.net, and really knows a lot and cares about the Celica community. I've bought from him before with no problems whatsoever.

3. A couple people have VIS carbon fiber hoods on their cars, and as far as I know, they're very happy with them. smile.gif

4. I thought about this too, and figured that if it did cause any problems by getting water on wires or electrical components, I could build a plastic cover that would go under the vents and re-route the water to a safe location.

5. I'm not sure on shipping to the UK. Charlie will have to answer that one. wink.gif

1) your money goes to VIS, actually. smile.gif

2) i'm honest, ask anyone. if we get to the point where we pay the money, VIS will do the job, i talked to the guy on the phone, they are more than willing to work with us, and they are a reliable company.

3) vis is quality, ask anyone who has their stuff.

4) there shouldn't be any problems with rain, if you feel the need, i'm sure some lexan and a dremel can fix that easily... but it will be a the front of the hood, so there shouldn't be any problems. not much up there. i have to put a shield over my intake, it's at the front on the turbo but i was going to do that anyway.

5) i'll check on shipping to the UK.

that was tried, and man, i don't think it will work. see with the TRD hood, you can modify an OEM hood, put the vents in it, it's fairly simple, they already have that.

with the gt4 hood, to get the raised middle setion, they'd have to totally fabricate a new hood, and those vents are tough to do and would have to be totally fabricated, which would be $$$$. also, you'd have the argument, do we have it match the GT4 bumper or the stock bumper. and they need a sample hood to make it, so we'd have to buy one of those too, so they could design it. it could be done, but i expect the hoods would be well upwards of 1000 each based on the labor involved.

i can enquire about this AFTER this buy goes through with the money... but please don't post about it, don't contact VIS, let's not get them confused. if you want to you can PM me about it, but let's stay focused on the TRD hood right now.

see this way, we have sweet hood, and they have all the info they need, they make a hood for us already, and they make a TRD hood for the supra. they have the hood, they have the vents, all they have to do is combine. easy.

i got a question too, i used to own a 5th gen and i got into 3 accidents with that, one of which totaled my car. what happens if we send the money and bad luck strikes, (knock on wood) and we get in an accident, will we be reinbursed? or what, thanks.

if that happens, and you get in an accident between when you order the hood and you get the hood, you won't get reimbursed, but i'll help you find someone to buy it.

btw, i don't know if i posted this before, but we have to pay in full for all the hoods before we start production. shipping can wait until later i do believe, but i'll check on that as well.

One last question...

Will the hood fit a UK spec 6g celica? you guys have a different engine to us so I was thinkin'... are the car bodies the same?

If the answer is yes to fitting and shippings isn't too high, then add me to the list.

Cheers

As long as your car isn't a GT-Four, then yes, this hood will fit fine. All non-GT-Four OEM hoods are the same for our cars. wink.gif

shipping for one hood to the UK is about 500. we can put 2 together for about the same price, and it may vary depending on where exactly it is going.

I think that the vents are far enough forward that water getting in there shouldn't damage anything. If it looks like a possibility though, then you could always build something fairly easily to divert the water to a safe location. wink.gif
