hey guys,

i keep getting a CEL at random times when driving.

i bought an obd2 scanner and resetting tool from ebay for $50. toyota wanted $72 just to check the code once, and i'll be damned if i have to pay them again.

the code that comes up is p0401, EGR flow insufficient detected. it is the same every single time, never changes. when it comes on there is not a single thing different with the car.

as far as i can tell there is no harm to the car but it is VERY annoying to have a relativly new car with no problems but a constantly on CEL.

in my chiltons manual, it lists the parts that cause this code, they are as follows:

EGR valve stuck closed.
Open or short in VSV circuit for EGR
Vacuum or EGR hose disconnected
MAP sensor
EGR VSV open of close malfunction
ECM

now i bought a new VSV from the dealer for $113. they wanted another $150 to install it, i poped the hood right infront of them and installed it in 2 minutes. so i can rule that out.

the ecm works as far as i know
all hoses are connected and no leaks
i took off the egr and cleaned it, pretty sure its not clogged or stuck.

now, im thinking it is either a short in the wiring or, my SAFC2 messing with the MAP

any of you guys with SAFC or SAFC2, do you mind telling me your basic sensor settings and the pressure you get at idle and the units of pressure its in?

i just went and checked the wiring with a volt meter.

i found the wire for the VSV on the first ECU connector.

it is a black and blue wire. to verify that i had the right wire i went to the other end at the VSV and checked. there was a black and blue wire and a red and black wire.

i checked the continuity from the ecu connector to the black and blue wire on the VSV side and got nothing. then i touched the red and black wire a got continuity.

now, im no that into electrical engineering, but im pretty sure that i should have gotten a connection only on the black and blue wire, not from one to the other.

if anyone has any ideas, or has had the same problem, please post
