my brake changing experience Options

so i needed new brake pads on the rear of my car. on one side the brakes taht i changed were still like new., but i went ahead and changed taht one no problem at all. but when i got to the side i knew needed the brakes, i went to get the bolt off to move the caliper, and the bolt snapped. so i went ahead and changed teh pads and they were down to the metal... this confused me b/c the other side were perfect, and these seemed like they were the originals. the pads were different in name and style. and they were diff colors. so now the bolt hole needs to be drilled and a new bolt put in. so i now have new pads, the roatrs are still good. and my caliper needs to be repaired, but it isnt moving so i know i can drive iwth it for a little while

Do you have any pics. I am preparing myself for this task. Have you found your part. I notices that my rear brakes only have one nut and the other is like a bolt. Did you removed both. Are they difficult to change.

basically. i dont have anypics. i could take some tomorro and kinda do a re do. i didnt think there was a how-to on this.
its not difficult at all. there is one bold, and the other is a plug like thing. when looking at the caliper, there will be a =one bolt on the backside that needs to be removed. once that is removed, just pull up on the caliper and the entire thing twist up. after that just pull off the brake pads and replace.

no need for you to do a write up. So the bolt you can take out. The plug doesn. I thought maybe we were able to take the whole caliper out. So you twisted. That is self explan. No need to post pics. Ill go ahead and do it today see what happens....

Well, here it is. One wheel though, its too hot.....



took out the bolt...



brake cleaner



greased pads, and pushing the piston with the right tool...



finished...

i think i have the brakes the other way around, the tabs on the tops

Does it matter? Thats how it was previously so i did it that way.

I guess it would do to the rotation of the disc. But it would matter when the brakes are worn. I dont know.

On the other hand, because i was distracted i undid the middle bolt. and brake fluid came out. So i guess if i wanted to leak al break fluid to replace, has anybody done this. I cant find a sticky.

you might need to rebleed your fluid, if air gets inside its not a nice braking feeling

i dont think air got inside, ill go try it aout around the block. i had the top off from the reservoir in the engine bay

well, test drove it, and i did not get killed. Ill do the fronts tomorrow.

i dont think it matters where the tab things are, i put mine on opposite what they were and they are perfect so oh well. at long as i can stop

i believe the tabs are just wear indicators, like when the pads wears to that point, the squeek against the rotor lettin ya know its time for new pads

on another note, i was changing today my corolla brake pads. How do i make the rubber seal aroud the piston retract. I cnat make it go bak. any ideas...
