Nice work on the Wal Mart scam.
Were you having problems with your headlights or any other lights fading when the bass would hit very hard before? If so, did this stop any fading from happening? Also, how many watts RMS is your amp? -------------------- New Toyota project coming soon...

i had very little fading under extreme bass but the cap solved that. but improved sound quality by far. i have an 800 watt amp bridged and running in series with four subs that are at 400 watts each. the amp really really need the help. but if u have fading of the lights a power cap will most definatly stop it.

I don't have fading lights because my amp is only capable of 500 watts RMS, and I have the gains turned way down and I usually never have my bass very loud. I just like it to blend in with my music.
Nice to know that it helped your sound quality though. -------------------- New Toyota project coming soon...

The reason you noticed such an improvment is that your stock alternator is barely big enough to run the car itself.
Cap's are not cure-alls even though there are still some people out there who believe a cap will fix every power problem imaginable. A high output alternator will provide you with the amperage that you need to properly run your audio system, as well as the rest of the vehicle's electronics. Don't get me wrong, adding a cap can help, but it will not "fix" the problem. If anything it will only act as a bandaid and the problem will get worse. Using a Cap in the proper circumstance can help even out voltage regulation for better SQ. But it will not fix your power problem. |

Consider yourself lucky. The stock alternator is something like 70 amps. Your 1100 watt amp would've needed at least 90 amps to run it. Then another 70 amps for the 850. That puts a lot of strain on the alternator... I've seen plenty go up in smoke. My whole point was that caps don't fix problems... if you're having them. All a cap does is hide the fact that the charging system can't keep up. For sound quality they can help a lot. But you almost never see them on the spl cars. The reason is that the test tones they use to generate the bass will cause the amps to drain the caps and not allow them to recharge. Then you will have the amps pulling power and the caps trying to recharge at the same time overloading the charging system. So if you want to buy a cap go ahead it will improve sound quality most of the time and it will lessen or stop the dimming lights just remember you haven't fixed the cause that's all I was saying. |
