QUOTE(BadBoi @ Sep 9, 2007 - 7:21 AM) Whats would you say would be the best 6gen celica to buy. Where are you from? If you're overseas then I'd say an SS-III or GT-4. But if you're in the states then I'd go for a later-model GT hatchback (if you like hatchbacks). Or GT-S but I think with that you're only getting a stereo and aesthetics upgrade. Other than that you really don't have many choices. I'd stay away from an ST though, you'll already be losing out in power. It's just a good thing they look so damn good! I would have to agree with m0dd3d1! The ST should be your last choice. It's a mere 108 HP! It only looks as good as the more advanced in power GT model. My car is an ST model but I did not know better then! Now I know and I'm passing knowledge and experience on to you and others!
Good luck! if you are looking to swap or turbo, then a 94 or 95 might be your best bet. The 96+ are OBDII and some states it's harder to get the 96+ inspected if it's swapped.
If your looking for a peppy gas saver, then the ST is your choice. -------------------- |

I remember reading somewhere prior to buying mine that the 96-99 have better sound insulation due to owners complaints that the 94-95years let in too much road noise. I don't know if its true. Maybe someone can confirm this?

+1 dustin yea.. the st sucks as is and most likely will never be an amazing performance car... but the money saved from a gt makes for more mods down the road =)

The engines of the two models are different. The ST model is powered by the 1.8 liter DOHC 7A-FE engine. This engine puts out 110 horsepower at 5600 rpm and 115 lb. ft. of torque at 2800 rpm in the 1994 and 1995 model years, and in the 1996 and 1997 model years, the engine puts out 105 horsepower at 5200 rpm and 117 lb. ft. of torque at 2800 rpm. The GT model of the sixth generation Celica is powered by the more powerful 5S-FE powerplant, which is a 2.2 liter DOHC engine. This engine puts out 135 horsepower at 5400 rpm, and 145 lb. ft. of torque at 4400 rpm in every state except for California, where the engine only puts out 130 horsepower due to emissions restrictions. Both engines produce fairly usable low end torque, with the GT producing more than the ST. Neither of them rev very high however, and are designed more with economy than performance in mind. Both engines, like nearly all Toyota engines, are very reliable and can withstand a lot and last for a long time.

I understand that you can copy and paste lol
^^ those are #s at the crank, not at the wheels. You should do more research and understand what those terms mean so you can understand what I wrote (not copied and pasted). I own an ST and I own a GT. I am well aware of how both cars respond and how easily they can be modded for performance and/or economy. I don't think you do at all. The guy's original question was "Whats would you say would be the best 6gen celica to buy" . You were the only one who didn't post an answer, just a complaint about everyone else. If you cannot be helpful to a post to answer someone's question, then please, don't post anything. You just make yourself look dumb and clutter the board with usless babble -------------------- |

Badboi, this is probably your best answer here^ In my opinion, the best 6gc to buy is whichever one you like the best. Any car can have the motor boosted or swaped, and you can change practically anything about them to make them your own. Just chose whether you want a hatchback or coupe. That's about the only thing that can't be changed on them. -------------------- CLOSED on 25 acres! -shop coming soon.... |
