Just a general question...I know a few (mostly Dr. Tweak) have clocked turbos for there set ups. My question is why doesn't all the 3s and 5s guys do it. Clocking the turbo isn't that hard, just relocate the wastegate. It would shorten up ur ICP leading to a somewhat faster spool and its looks better imo. I'm actually going to be doing a midmount setup this winter with the sr cause of the difference in spool time. I was just wondering y no one does it?

i clocked mine on both the 5sfte and 3sgte setup. but the reason why people normally don't is because of the wastegate actuator. it is bolted to the compressor housing, then a rod is connected to the exhaust side gate. when you twist the compressor hosing the rod and actuator wont line up anymore for proper operation and you have to either make a crazy weird shaped rod (what i did) or make a new bracket for the actuator to mount to. i suck at explaining things but hope you get the jist.
with an external wastegate you have nothing to worry about at all, no modifications needed. -------------------- |

Yeah I was reading about making the IWG bracket but its not hard to trace out a templet and then buy some metal and cut it. Would prob cost you 10-15 bucks at most if that. It just seems like an easier mod to do and more benifical...you shorten your ICP which means 2 things, one faster spool, and two less money spent on ICP. And it looks alot cleaner. Probs to you itchy for doing it

you really wont notice any difference in spool up. at most you are only removing a foot of piping from that bend. and even then, people add that same amount back to the setup by routing their cold pipe over to the drivers side of the car, for some reason.
as far as looks go, it does make for cleaner install, but make sure you make a bracket thats nice and solid. the ones tweak posted look a little on the thin side. i would worry that any flexing in that bracket could cause you to over boost. you could make something like that for 4bucks with a jig saw, a drill, and some sheetmetal from homedepot. -------------------- 15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned

I agree that you Art wouldn't feel that much of a difference in spooling, but there would be some. My buddy convinced me to do a mid mount set up on my sr after he did his. Now granted he has a t28 BB on his sr but he is at full spool by 36-3700rpm(18lbs). He lost almost 5 ft of ICP. Since im still on the stock t-25 I'll prob reach full spool around 41k rpms (10lbs) oposed to my 48ish now -------------------- Now SR powered |

I don't like the idea of bending actuator rod. 2. Would it mount OK on an AWD tranny? Here is an example of bracket for 1st gen. -------------------- _Gary

the diffrence between a clocked turbo and non clocked turbo as far as spool will be negligable at best.
99% of the guys that do clock them use a hard 90 right off the turbo, IMO thats just about the same as the soft 180 the guys who dont clock use. the only advantage to clocking the turbo IMO is looks, unless you have an IC with the in and out on the same side, like itchyb has. -------------------- Former Team 5SFTE pro member ;)
