So, for the past 3 months now, ive been out of a job. Down in Windsor, the automotive industry is at an all time high, and low. Its at a high of people buying new cars, but at a low because thouse ppl who r buyin thouse new cars, arent gettin their old ones fixed. So mechanics and apprentices *like my self* are up sh*t creek without a paddel. Im visiting my parents right now, and they are looking into buyin a new car sometime within the next 6 months or so, and every single time they went any where, they complained how terrible the service was and how stupid the sales people were. So my dad knowning me very well jokingly said to me "You know what you should do? You should be a car salesmen. You probably know 30 times more about these things than any of the dumba$$es we talked to did". I took it as a joke, my mom on the other hand thought it was a great idea, and my girlfriend has been saying for years i should get into it. She says im a bit to persuasive at times..lol Any ways, one of my buddies imports cars from japan and he kept telling me that he cant sell the cars that hes selling technicaly because he doesnt have his full sales lisence. He was tellin me that you can get a sales liscense and then you also need a dealership liscense to sell cars besides the ones that are registered under you. So keeping that in mind, i did some looking around on the net, and i cant find any thing regarding car sales liscenses except for a bunch of websites based out of the states, mainly california, and a few from canada, but all of them being from Alberta and B.C.
So now that my rants over, heres the question, does any one know if there is a government mandated liscensing program in effect garding the sales of cars? Like if i wanted to go work for say a Mazda dealership, to sell cars, do i need to have a certain ticket to do so? I checked with the Ontario Ministry of transportation, and i couldnt find any thing on their site, i checked with the canadian goverments site and i couldnt find any thing there either. So either i have no clue of how to do a proper search on the net, or there really isnt to much info about it on it. Any ways, any help would do. Im also gonna talk to some people i know who have been in the sales department before and see if i can get an answer out of them. |

In MN i think you only need to have a dealer license if you buy or sell 8 or more vehicles in a year

^ Private party yes, I think as a car salesmen for a company you only need to know the dealer you work for has the liscence to sell them nothing yourself.
side note: Salesmen (in my exsperiance) are extreamly dumb, deff dont know about cars. last one I talked to was a nice guy but could not remember the kind of car I test drove a min ago, was a 350z and he and to ask me what it was, not a great way to get a sale, and for some reason he though my insurance card was a load card for my trade in or something, he wrote down insurance number as a bank loan number even though I told him I did not have a loan for it. deff go for it if you want, I think it would be a fun job and if you know something about cars i dont think you would have much compatition -------------------- |

I think you can sell X number of car per year before the swat comes to your door.
But if you work for a dealer, you work for a company and you are just a salesman, the only requirements are the one set by the company (experience, education, etc...) And yea, most people selling cars are peoples in sales that know **** all about cars. This post has been edited by Rayme: Nov 13, 2007 - 11:25 AM -------------------- -Rémy 02 SiR, 08 250R |
