So today I had a good friend of mine recommend this asian guy who speicalizes in japanese engines and trannys. I went there with my 94 Celica GT so he can take a look at it and I asked him for a 4th gen 3SGTE swap. He started the work estimate and then asked me if I wanted to convert it to 4WD well I said what the hell why not. So with EVERYTHING included complete motor(4th gen 3SGTE), ecu, harness, transmission, rear 4WD conversion, labor, additional parts, and performace tuning (300HP), the whole thing came out to $6,864.50. My question is........is it worth it?

HECK YES. Just the motor swap can be around $3,500 completed. With the AWD and tune go for it man. Its better than trying to import a gt4 or going out and getting an evo or sti. Plus you're getting the 4th gen motor much newer DO IT. If you actually go through with it and the guy completes it with no Faulty let me know. Actually let US know. I am willing to drop my car where ever to get this thing done.

Funny thing is I asked the same question I was like Dude are you sure you want to do a 4WD convert? He looks at me all serious and says come with me to the back, and he had like I swear 3 6th gen Celicas lifted in the air with all the 4WD conversion done, really clean too driveshaft axel everything I nearly busted in my pants lol. He apparently gets rear clips from japan I think ST205 ones and transfers all the **** with minor modifcation to the body. Some tack welding thats all I believe. I tell you I've NEVER seen anything like this. The guys son is some ECU guru I felt so stupid around him he comes out where I was standing by my car and says "you doing a 3SGTE right?" I was like ya He goes how much power you want 300, 400, 500hp? I'm like your ****ing kidding right? He goes No, not at all. You dont know what these Toyota engines can do. So I said 300 hp is fine I guess. |

As long as the car runs and drives I'm game after you're done. Just make sure that when yu are going 60 + your car wont steer off the road. A guy on here had that issue, because he welded up the rear subframe off a little.

And I just remembered he said something about he doesn't want to do a swap on a 96 or higher Celica because of emissions and stuff. because I live in arizona the screwballs lol have emissions testing here. But if you dont have emissions testing manditory where you live I guess you can ignore it then

Thats what I thought too, but no one's coming forward with this. Well I guess I'm going to have to hunt some people down. LOL. But it would be nice if one of those celica owners saw this thread and give us some info since the awd conversion has already been done to their cars.

to my knowledge it sounds like 7k worth of labor, and u supply him with the bulk of the parts. like 4 other people have stated, "seeing is believe". so ill say it again, PROVE IT. show us the 3 6gc's -------------------- Kawi Love |

So I need a little more time to get the money and I'll post the pics for sure and his info where you can find him. I'm about to go back and ask him how much just a AWD convert will cost, cause theres like 2 or 3 more people after me who want it done. All I can say is his shop is in Phoenix, AZ 85040.

all i know is...you're probably looking at a good 2-3k or more for a real pro looking paint job...and worse thing is, every auto painter will result differently and charge you differently...some are just poor painters that charges you a lot for crappy work because they didn't spend their time on it rightly, and there are those that charge you cheapy but does a really swell job because it's what they do best to get the customer coming back (if you're lucky you find these people), and those that charge a lot for their pro work (if they do a pro work on your car)...it varies...some have it well, others don't when it comes down to painting your car...so i really can't say... i have had my troubles there too trying to find a good decent painter...lol sorry man, btw, left hand drive, right hand? no real differ...you'll get use to it...

i don't see how showing us pictures of the "3 AWD 6th gens" will give away this guys shop.. it seems selfish that you are hiding this resource from us (if its legit) just because you are waiting to save up money to have him work on your car.
Don't get me wrong, but i just don't see the big picture of hiding all of this information from the community. If this guy is legit, it may have just opened the next big door for this website. I know many members here that would drive there themselves to have a proper, tried and true AWD swap performed on their celi's. And if this guy has a demand from the community he will surely import more parts to make this happen for others as well. This post has been edited by jcbass7: Nov 16, 2007 - 10:35 AM |

i think you guys are being a little too harsh for the guy...he just ask for our opinion on the job and wanted to see if it was legit...he also gave us a scenario of what happened to him during the visit to the shop...Im pretty sure he will get back to us with pics and info of the shop, but first...he found the shop and wants to get his celi done first....i don't blame the guy and i don't blame anyone on here throwing a fit...i was like that too, but if you were in the guy's shoe...you probably wouldn't say much until you got your celica done and then post it here for us members....which is probably the guys' mistake in the first place...cheers

To get a opinion from the members on this site you need to provide good information. People in the celica community have seen scam artists so many times that we have a developed a very thick skin to claims like this. Asking for pictures not only helps us find the "next big thing" but also helps us provide our best opinion of the price and craftsmenship of the shop it self. Most people flying the BS flag in this thread dont even care about the shop name or where its located. They just want to see picture proof of a AWD work in progress.
If your going to hold pictures/information your going to be on your own when it comes time to decide if this shops claims are bogus or not. For your sake I hope you dont get scamed. -------------------- Member of Team 5sfTe

Well I never said this would be the next big thing all I wanted to know is the quote they gave me a reasonable price. I could not care less if you dont believe me then ignore this thread no one is making you post here anyway. The shop DOES import rear clips and parts from japan of course but do you think I really want to pay more for the shipping when he has one laying around his shop that I could use in stead of ordering one, waiting, and paying more? Now chacha asked me to get him a quote and I will personally I will go back there and also take pics *if he doesnt mind* but the shop isnt what you call "close" to me its out of my way.

I used the "" 's because I was QUOTING the words of someone else. I also never said I didnt believe you, infact, Id LOVE for this shop to be the real deal. I was just pointing out the reasoning behind why alot of these members (if you look the members using the BS flag have been around a long while) are very questionable about yours/shops claim. Again, to sum it up, GG on finding the shop. I hope its all its cracked up to be. This may be the future of the 6gc family. -------------------- Member of Team 5sfTe

If the shop has a really good guy in Japan, I can see this as a real possibility. The floor pan just needs to come with the clip (separated from the front. It would cost about the same as a normal front clip (you still have to buy a good running car no matter what!), and the fabrication costs on the back-end are much less.
I personally think the price is a very good for what he would be getting if the quality of the work is there. I also agree with the 'old skool' guys - I'd like to see a few pics! -Charlie -------------------- 2003 Subaru WRX Wagon

yeah... what ever happened with this, anyway? If I had the money for this swap, I would have my car SHIPPED to AZ and take the damn bus to work every day while it was gone! A basically 6th gen All-Trac would be the car of my dreams!

QUOTE(1bwilson @ Nov 16, 2007 - 3:24 PM) To get a opinion from the members on this site you need to provide good information. AMEN TO THAT^ X2... we dont want you getting scammed bro. like you said you saw 3 6th gens IN THE AIR with the conversion done to them i am BY FAR NO HATER but my BS flag is at half mast where is pressure, lagos and dr tweak? wonder what they think about this.... nonetheless GREAT opportunity, we need to know where so maybe the doc could "drop by" on his north american tour lol -------------------- |
