So, ive tried, and tried, and TRIED! to get a big canadian meet going. Only 2 semi big meets we have had was the GTA meet earlier in the summer where 5 ppl came out, and the thanks giving GTA meet where again...5 cars came out. Any ways, i wanna do this right. I know this will probably get moved to the meets/events section, but im posting it here any ways because im trying to get some ideas of where to have it, when to have it and if people would actually come.

So, we need to figure out some where thats convient to have it where we can have enough room for how ever many cars to come, some thing to do besides just hang out in a parking lot, and some where that we can spend more then a day there. I pretty much wanna do the whole CSP and DWG thing but canadian.

Im thinkin that we should either do it in Montreal, or Quebec city. My reasoning for that is so that we can get people from all over ontario, quebec and the east coast to come out, aswell as be close enough to the boarder to have people from the U.S. to come up too. They are big enough cities, there will easily be some where to have the meet, plenty of places to stay for a decent price, lots to do around town, and some nice drives just outside of town.

When? im thinking we should have it begginging of summer or mid summer. Sometime when people can enjoy the weather.

What to do? i think depending on where we end up, we should go for a cruise. If we go to Quebec City, maybe do a cruise through the old city, out of town and up to Mt St. Anne? Montreal...i donno cuz last time i was there i was 12 and dont really remember alot about the trip.

But i seriously wanna have a big big meet. Im thinking if people dont wanna drive alone, we can do a kind of convoy along the way. Pick people up as we go. Like it would stat off with me, sarah and maybe Mike, if he comes in Windsor, then we would drive up the 401, pickup any one in london area, drive down the 403 and pickup any one along the way, drive up to kitchener and pickup the few members we have there, into toronto meet up with who evers coming, then stop along the way as we need to untill we all get to either montreal or quebec city. I think it would b crazy having like 20 celicas driving down the highway for like 6 hours one right after the other.

This could easily easily work, all we need is some support. I can even see if i can talk to any of my friends in the industry and maybe get them to sponsor the canadian sector of 6gc and see if we can get some prizes/merchandise for people.

What do you guys think??

im hoping for an entire weekend event. Spend 1 day just hanging out meeting every one, etc. Then the next day go for a cruise for a few hours.

From windsor to Qubec city its about 12 and a half hours, but im definatly willing to make the drive.

But also, depending on how many people are coming we will try and get a discount rate for the hotel.

that sounds like fun, I'm all for that. I can take a vacation anytime that I want, as long as I have days banked up. There is always the unexpected but since it's planned ahead, chances of me going are greater. Sometime next summer would be awesome.

Count me in !

argh, Bryan..you got me really tempted to go to this trip, but i recommend Montreal, i was up there in July..haha made it in 9 hours---i had a cop scanner at the time though, so i was flooring like 160 the entire way biggrin.gif anyway, Montreal is a great place man, and lotsss of things to do, we oughta go hit up this one club called Red Lite..oh man, i'll never forget it there, it was awesome...but yeah, im seriously considering about attending to this meet up. Count me in for now, i'll most likely be able to make it unless i have to attend some stupid intermission or w/e for school in summer.

I'm defenitly in Bryan. You know what I think of it (Canadian Meet). And I shurely can* bring alot of Celidudes from the Club Celica Québec!! The only thing is, we're an all-gen club. What you think of it? Anyways, I'm in and HorseHead too. May I suggest another place for this meet? I'd say Sherbrooke/Mont-Orford. Closer than anything else to the mass (I believe so) Located close to the Maine border, with a beautiful scenic view with the mountains in the background! Let me know what you guys think of it but count me in whatever happens:)

Yeah! Québec City could be very busy at that time, lots of tourists and traffic. Could be a nightmare just to go around. Sherbrooke would be a better place for shure. But yes I'm in whatever you decide. Don't want to miss that!!! Btw, any american 6gc members? C'mon guys, why not making the biggest 6g meet ever!!!!!!!

Paul also brought up a good point, maybe we should have the meet a bit earlier then summer and on a long weekend. Maybe Victoria day long weekend? That way we get the monday off any ways so it wont mean taking that extra day off work and a worry free comute back home.

Any one against having it a bit earlier?? Questions? Concerns? Suggestions? im open to any thing.

Yes, Sherbrooke have a pretty large number of english speaking persons. But don't be afraid, in hotels and restaurants, you can easily be served in english just about anywhere in Québec, so the "french" reason doesn't apply here wink.gif

And me and HorseHead too our cars are stored t'ill the end of may (or about) Just a shame that Canada's day isn't on the week end next year, it would've be the perfect day for that I think! frown.gif

May I add that Montreal is VERY bi-lingual so you'll have no wryz on that note Bryan, also, it's only busy downtown but there's parking lots and places, but its not so bad--if you wanna cruise, we could cruise downtown, and also on Papineau st. (its a 70km/h road--long stretch)...also..anyone say paintballing? lol it would be a fun activity to implement to our plans.

This is a view of the Mont-Orford, near Sherbrooke:

IPB Image

One thing about Quebec City though, in 2008, the city will celebrate it's 400th anniversary, so it might be very busy there, but a lot of activities in the same time. Many rock concerts confirmed, depending on when you want to make that meet. I can have a closer look of what's planned if you want.

Hello folks I know I got a little carried away in writing but... try to bare with me as it may be helpful. I've appared to lost my account, but none of you would really know of me anyways.
First let me properly introduce myself, though this may not be the right thread.. but I will go back on topic.
The name is Danny/Viet. Either or Komodo is fine. I was once a member here about a year ago, contemplating to buy a 6gc as well. Now I'm planning on getting an 8G Galant. As you see, I'm a member of TGC. My car? Well it will come soon. And yes. I'm Canadian, living in Montreal. Oh. And Mike (_mikeE) knows me personally.
With that being said...
I like the idea of a Canadian 6G meet. Although I personally do not own a 6g... I can provide information that could be needed for a meet IF there will be one in Montreal. But at the moment... it looks like I'm a little late seeing as how Valo666 has casted a voting.
But I will tell you this:
Montreal is quite a fair bilingual city. We have city-extensions, as I call them. There are Laval, St. Leonard, RDP, West Islands and Anjou. Possibly some more that I do not really know of. Most stores WILL speek english. You should not need to worry about hotels/motels and such. It's only the citizens themselves you need to worry for.
As you know, Montreal is a large city. A large city means more drivers and more pedestrians. I do not know how it is in comparison to Sherbrooke but the drivers we have in Montreal are just nuttcases. On a side note, Montreal and some of it's "city-extensions" is, I believe, one of the only cities in Quebec where you CANNOT turn on a red light... so expect long line ups at a red light. Also. Most of the streets in Montreal will turn into one ways or are one ways themselves. Our traffic system is a little bit different from Ontario. The majority of street lights will inform you to go STRAIGHT and moments later you will be allowed to turn. As Mike just how many times I had to practically shout at him for turning or going straight when he's not supposed to. lol.
There are also a lot of places to go and places to see. However as I mentioned there are a lot of nuttcased drivers. So most of the streets will be conjested. Downtown Montreal is not recommended for a drivethrough UNLESS you like waiting a bajillion years. Also our highway system itself can get quite conjested... and there tends to be some sort of accident every other day in the fall/winter season.. I'm not too sure of it in the spring/summer season. There are a quite a number of places that would hold for a nice meet.. also some roads where speeding is made easily.
And I don't want to intrude in anyway as I may not quite be apart of the meet but....
Since you guys already started planning the location and voting upon it. Why not cast a voting [if editing for voting in this thread is possible]. And why not create a list of things you/we CAN do in the meet.
There's quite a number of things to do... I have a few I could suggest on the top of my head.

Paintballing (as Mike suggested)
Gokarting
Golfing
Bowling
Racetrack (located in St. Eustache)
Plain ol' car meet with no event and just relax in a parking lot
Bar-ing
Clubbing
Raving
Restaurant-ing
and of course
BBQ-ing!

Also there is a place in Montreal right off of the highway called "Orange Julep" aka "The Big Orange". There is oftenly a local car meet there every Thursday... and the food there is pretty good... the drink is even better.

This is all in respect to Montreal and it's 'city-extensions'. I do not know what it is like in Sherbrooke.

well thanks for that long story there TGC-Komodo. I appreicate some suggestions you made, but the thing is we also have to remember that not all members who are going to be coming are going to be interested in all of thouse activities. I know Sarah wouldnt be interested in doing paintball, plus if we go golfing or somethin like that, for people who do the sport will need to bring their clubs etc, and that takes up more room than needed. Anyways, i was hoping to make it a 2 day event in either Sherbrooke or the Montreal area, make the 1 day a meet and great and have a bit of a car show, then the second day we do something fun like go for a curise, go sight seeing or w/e. But i think that maybe on the Saturday night of the weekend we could maybe go clubbing because i think every one whos going to be coming will be over 18. But for somethin like that we can figure it out closer to the date. But right now i kinda wanna keep going with the list of people coming and voting for location. As soon as we figure out where we r gonna go/when we r gonna go, I will startup another thread with all the info about when, where, place to stay, etc. But as of right now i just wanna keep the people interested in coming and voting for the location.

You do realize that if it is in Quebec you should call it an East Canada Meet since it is almost impossible for any of us out west to make the drive!

I would go for sherbrooke just because I will certainly NOT enjoy driving in Montreal..!

I just drove on the highway there and it's nuts !!! and I don't think I will ever want to go there to joyride (isn't it what the meet is all about?)

Some members of Celica Québec that don't have 6th gen, when they learn about this meet, want to come too!! What you think Bryan? Most of them have 7th gens and 5th gens. So, do you want to keep it 6th gen only, or you're open to have some other Celica?

im open to any one whos got a toyota and doesnt have an attitude. I like the people from 6gc because no one here is cocky about their car or about them selves, thats one of the reasons i wanted to have a 6th gen only meet, but yea im open to people of other gens, but i kinda wanna keep it as a toyota only meet, or people who want toyota's. But yea, my friend jay and his gf are gonna b coming up in a Fiero and my buddy might b coming up with his Cavalier thats got some JDM Toyota Cavailer stuff on it. Personaly, the bigger the meet is, the better, just as long as every one gets along and has fun. I dont wanna b driving 11 hours to deal with drama.

I perfectly understand, and you won't have that kind of attitude, garanteed wink.gif

Now for the date, I suggest may 17th-18th, cauz it'a a long week-end in Canada (Victoria Day/Dollard-Des-Ormeaux' Day) That way, we're pretty sure to reach a maximum of poeple. smile.gif And for those who have to work on their rides, they'll have enough of warm days to finish their cars wink.gif

if my car is road-worthy
if i can get the time off
if it's above freezing on Victoria/Dollard Day
if it's in Sherbrooke (Montreal drivers scare me...been there, done that, have the t-shirt emotional scars. too bad 'cause i love the city)
if i can loose at least 15 kilos before the event

i would gladly drive the 13 hours to meet.

count me in as a loose maybe (sorry i have a serious comittment issue...it's called MARRIED WITH CHILDREN !!!!) wink.gif

PS why not Quebec City...it's the 400th and it would be special?

Qc city is a tourists oriented city, and I see no problem with anglaphones driving aroud town with hot import cars, the problem is the streets gonne be jamned and having a cruise there will be a real nightmage I believe. Las year, during Québec day, me and my wife went there, and it took about 1h1/2 running 1km kindasad.gif But if some of you want to have this meet on 2 days, mabye we could have the 1st day in sherbrooke, and the second day in Qc city, why not smile.gif But be advised about the traffic issue rolleyes.gif

hey all,

i was just testing the waters. i luv Quebec City that's all. i does make more sense to keep it on the DL and avoid the tourist trap that will be QC this summer. can't blame a guy for trying, eh?

PS i too am francophone and my car is quiet

ok..so time for nominations for when to do this. We gotta make sure that every one is gonna have their cars out of storage. So june or july would work for me. I should b able to get time off work then, plus most ppl should b done school. So how about either the weekend of june 14/15? or june 21/22?? As soon as we decide on a date for sure..ill make some phone calls and see if i can get some sponsorships/support from some people..plus i will find a hotel and call them and try and get a group rate.

I'm alright with the time--I'm done school in end of April anyway, think that should leave me plenty of warm weather time for me to do a few last things before the big event--doubt I'll have the engine though so w/e, i'll just do side-things until then.

we still need to decide on a date. Also, i think i might b able 2 get some custom made hats for us for a decent price. right now they are $32 retail, but im gonna ask how much it would be if i got bulk discount. I would probably get the 6gc logo on the front, dragon and sn on the back. If you guys are interested, ill ask about it and get a full price for when we get the date set in stone.

Any ways, keep votin on a date and we will settel it in a week or 2.

The only problem with the 14/15 week-end it's because it's the father's day week-end, and some might want to be with their dads on that day, but I'll be in anyway:) if it what's you decide

Just a question for people from Maritimes...do you think it would be a good idea to meet somewhere and drive up there together like in Edmundston, NB....i think the drive would feel shorter when you have a 6gen rear in front of you biggrin.gif ....and also a safety if something wrong happen along the way

let me know what you think

its gonna be like a convoy across ontario...we r gonna start down in windsor, and come across picking people up along the way. There are a few members from scarborough area. like nader is from from the shwa, so it will pretty much be that me, keroppi, and mike_e will start out in windsor, and fallow the highways up and across picking people up along the way.

Any ways, keep votin on a date and we will settel it in a week or 2.

bonne idée.

i would be great to rallye fron the NB border to wherever/whenever. the safety factor is important and we could play leapfrog all the way to the site.

BTW i can't wait much longer for a date...my calendar is starting to fill. i will most likely be on vacation all of July and first 2 weeks of August.

peace

Just a question for people from Maritimes...do you think it would be a good idea to meet somewhere and drive up there together like in Edmundston, NB....i think the drive would feel shorter when you have a 6gen rear in front of you biggrin.gif ....and also a safety if something wrong happen along the way

let me know what you think

We're only planning to make it a 2 day one night event. One day will consist of driving there and checking out the sights and party or go bar w/e and the next day will be the actual meet where we cruise around and find a big parking lot to take pictures and so on and so forth and driving back to our location.

Yeah that sounds good. I was actually just going on a two day trip with you guys even if you extend for a longer period of time. I just can't leave my daughter and wife that long. Why don't I just take them along? My daughter will be 15 months old this July and it is hard to take a baby along in a trip like this. I could bring my wife but she said she'll just stay home with Zoe. So yeah, 2 day sounds great to me.

according to about.com:

" The first Monday of August is a civic holiday in most Canadian provinces. It is commonly referred to as the August Long Weekend.

The following provinces and territories have a holiday on the first Monday of August:

* British Columbia,
* Alberta,
* Manitoba,
* Saskatchewan,
* Ontario,
* Nova Scotia,
* Prince Edward Island,
* New Brunswick, and
* the Northwest Territories.

Quebec, Newfoundland and Nunavut do not observe a holiday on this day and therefore conduct business as usual."

this is good, right?!?! it gives us an extra travel day.

ok so how about this?...august 1st, day of travel, saturday, first day of meet, sunday second day of meet, and travel back home for some, monday travel back home day for the rest?

So on the friday, early morning us windsor and any MI people wanting to come take off, pickup people along the way, get to sherbrooke late friday night. Check into hotel, then Saturday morning, meet up at designated meeting place, meet and greet other members, BBQ *if possible*, check out other members rides, take some pictures, and just hang out. Then sunday morning meet up for breakfast, go for a cruise and for the people who need to get back home/cant take that much time off from work or family, head back home. For every one else, hang out, go for dinner, etc. Monday, drive back home.

Sound good??

Also, i got a price on the hats. The hats them selves will be $34, $12 for the logo on the front, $8 for the logo and SN on the back..but if i put in an order of more then 10, the price goes down 20% on the price of the hat, 20% off the logo on the front and 20% off the price of the back logo and SN. So....*pulls out calculator*...

sooo..without discount...each hat is about $62 thumbsdown.gif

with discount...each hat is about $33 thumbsup.gif woot.gif that includes taxes and all. So, it up to you guys. I just wanna make sure we are all/the people who like to post are for sure ok with that plan and date. Then i will be setting up another post and closing this one off. It will put all the info regaurding hotel info, prices on the hotel and hats. Once we figure out the date for sure...there wont be a new thread brought up for probably a week or 2, so i can call around to some of my contacts about sponsoring the event and also contacting the area's hotels.

Sounds good with me, also for the hat--does it come with any color options and design options that we can choose from or can we design the hat ourselves and submit them to you and still be able to pay the $33.

Basically all i want is a white hat with black lettered, and a bledge edge trim on the brim of the hat.
A 6GC logo on the front but on the bottom right hand corner and the shape of our car enclosing my s/n on the back or we could stick with the logo on the back and s/n.

Just a heads up, if you have a GPS unit in your car, let me and Bryan (Valo666) know because we're gonna have to depend on you just incase our map or instructions get messed up. Also, we're gonna be needing contact information so ur number and mini-map to where to meet/pick you all up at when Bryan, Sarah, and I convoy to where you all are. (will repost notification again in new thread after this one gets all confirmed and closed).
