For the best sound imaging you really want to keep the tweeter as close to the midrange/midbass driver as possible. That being said the upgraded stock system mounted the tweeter in the plastic triangle trim where the side mirrors mount. Personally I would flush mount somewhere in the door panel but most people don't like the idea of cutting into the vinyl. Get yourself some double sided tape and try different places and see what sounds best too you.

Best Place I have found to mounth them is where your coat hanger pieces are in the back abover the mids......gives a great sound and there no drilling and cutting just take the pieces off run your wire screw them up and GOOD DEAL!

TRDVILLAIN's method looks the better. Cutting a hole in the door might seem
scary, especially if it goes wrong but a drill with a hole cutter attatched will pretty much cut through with no problems. Just remember to make a template of the tweeter first and use a sharp knife to cut the vinyl around it before using your hole cutter. Toyota did have tweeters fitted in the corner triangles, ....the picture below. Not really impressed by it..part No if your interested is: 86160-2B180, 86160-2B170, 67491-20330, 67492-20330 (THESE ARE SEPARATE TWEETERS, LEFT AND RIGHT AND THEIR CORNER UNITS) ...I think, can anyone verify! |

I have the tweeters mounted in the triangles. They suck. Does anyone know if they make aftermarket speakers this side to improve their quality?
