are there any after market manifold out there that can hide the turbo away from the view of people...? meaning for visual inspections? (for example...like cops asking for you to pop the hood) are there any pics out there with their turbos and pipes hidden very well?

How about a manifold that comes with directions to get outta cali biggrin.gif . A giant heat shield and a plastic engine cover off of a late model toyota might work. Just cut the cover to fit and make it look stock. It would require a w2a intercooler.

some states have really strict emission laws (cali being the worst)
and you will fail smog tests w/ a turbo or headers or high flow cat and other things like that.

that sucks man, but at least one state is keeping it green lol, we have rednecks driving around without tail pipes here... tongue.gif

Yeah california is a pain with the interaction of cops and the swap ordeal...thanks for all the responses...well sometimes i get pull over because of a highway patrol seeing that i have rims and an exhaust...some day, actually, this summer i plan to do a swap..st215..well when i get pulled over, i get ask to pop my hood to see if i modify anything in it that's not suppose to be in there...just for future reference, i would like to avoid it as much as possible and fool the cop if i were to have my swap done...i want it to have a stock look that also has the turbo hidden and the pipes as well...ill look into the custom heat shield, but aren't there some out there that has the turbo positioned at a lower section of the car, thus hiding it? any pics of the custom heat shield and where you can get it done would be very helpful.

use black piping. either high heat paint, or you can have it powder coated. if they pop the hood, they will be looking at a bunch of pipes n all that jazz that look somewhat stock. u can custom make the heat shield to fit over the header n turbo, just gotta play around with stuff and see what will match over the headerpipes and then use it as a rough copy and make a nice one.

are u going to have a top mount intercooler?

clock the turbo + heat shield and make sure all IC piping is black? i think it's easier on the newer cars that have all those plastic coverings...

here is the turbocharged is300 of the owner of the shop that installed my turbo...
IPB Image

so i guess if u could make some kinda plastic coverings...

yes...that is exactly what i wanted...i saw the sti's engine and the turbo seem to be in the far back near the firewall...really well hidden...can guess now my question is: "is there anyone on this forum who can weld really well and make these heat shield designs?" Imma look around the shops here and see if i can do anything about it...i think it might be good for the people with swap engines (3sgte)....

The stock ST215 heat shield covers everything but the compressor housing - you'd just need to cover that. I suggest going ST-205, keep the stock WTA and cover the compressor housing - would look bone stock to the uneducated.

I've seen turbo kits for corvettes that have the turbo all the way back near the muffler.

I resemble that remark. The muffler fell off my truck 10 years ago when I lived in Lexington. I guess I took the turn too fast. Been without every since.
