car radio not working Options

trying to turn it on and all it does is flash and than shut off, did the fuse get burnt or something or is there something i am not doing right.

i tried to install a new head unit but it doesn't power on, so i plug in the factory and it doesn't turn on either. any info would be helpful thanks

Check your wiring, it sounds like something may be cross wired. Unless the fuse is blown, but it wouldn't power at all up if it was blown.

hmm i dunno, i am using the factory harness with the factory radio and still. that's what i was thinking also, if the fuse was blown, it wont even light up to begin with.

you probably blew your stock amp... same thing happened to me. something grounded to the casing of the stock amp (i'm not sure how) and i fried it.

check your harness (the connecter that plugs in to the back of the stereo) using a multimeter or test light and test each of the pins.. one or a few should show power... if no power, your amp is fried and if there is power, then your stereo is the culprit.

by any chance do you have a red key on, or display saying help. some radios have theft lock. but i doubt it.

how do you plug the aftermarket? to the harness before the amp, or the one after the amp.

If its to the before the amp, the amp may also be fried. If its after, it could be a fuse...

azian_advanced is right, if you have a multimeter, you can check the actual volts to the radio.

I blew a fuse to my (aftermarket) radio about a month ago, there was *some* power going to the deck, IIRC the clock was on, but the deck wouldn't power up. Turned out to be the relay fuse under the hood.

I just had a thought - don't the stock radios have that anti-theft thing where if you take the radio out something gets all whacked out with it? Anyway check that one under the hood - it's like a 15 amp third from the left bottom row IIRC

not really sure how to get a read from a mutimeter, but i connected it to pin 11 and 3 and got a reading of 24, as well as 11 and 4 .... all other i didnt get a reading out of. the red button on my aftermarket flashes, but no power on when i press the power... maybe i did burn out the amp. so should i just ignore the amp and go get normal harness? btw none of the fuse was fried =X

wait, did you wire your head unit thru your amp the first time? if so that's what happend.

It's a pain in the hassle to get to that thing (without uninstalling half you car, lol) So if you harness didnt fit, or you used somthing for a car other than cellica; or if you cut and spliced than you've burnt out your amp.

I got another one if ya want it... I better go post a FS...(or PM me) ~whatever~

Just remember for future refference, that you cannot install a head unit ontop of that factoy amp. And even if you did go thru all the trouble of wireing it up to work; it'd suck because any $50+ head unit is going to put out about the same power as that amp.

That's why i have one that i dont need

ok, what i do is this. Open the hood, i connect the yellow and red wire to the positve pole, and ground to negative of the aftermarket.

get a speaker. And try each channel individually, this will help you test your aftermarket. I know this is getho style but it bypasse all wiring and fuses. Unles you have a bench supply with 12 volts of course...

if your radio still not working this way, then its possibly dead...

edit Found my pic: The little thing im touching, is part of the main harness. The plugs that it ends with, conects with the harness that exits the amps. These plugs are standard in all toyotas from specific years. So all you need is to look up in ebay this.(below)

Instead of hotwire, buy a harness that is plug, and play. It will save you headaches..

Kamax, this is what need to do. ^^^ If you dont wanna buy that one off of eaby, your local Wal*Mart will have em for about 5 bucks. I bought a Schorche brand harness. (however you spell that brand)

But seeing as you spliced thru your amp; it's possible that you have fried your head unit. I reccomend testing it direct to the battery.

Make sure you ground the black wire, and the red and yellow are wraped together when you give it positive power. lol.

heh head unit is fine =p, just the amp is fried i guess. tested it already so gonna just head to walmart and by the harness.

well after struggling with trying to find the original harness and try to remove the amp... i finally found the dam harness =X and but couldn't take the amp out ... >< strange screws and all. i finally got the radio to work and everything seem to be working fine.

advance: i got the 6 speaker system...pretty sure.

same with me; i couldnt get it out fast enough so i just left it there.

But i'm always late for something, never on time... if i show at all I was running late for something that day.

Just do like me and leave it there, Unplugged, untill you see a WTB stock amp, and i'll race you to sell em'

if you need to remove the stock amp, you'll need to take the center console part (the part where the climate control attaches to). it can get a little tedious...
