ok so i was planning on doin a 3swap in june. but i recently got caught up in 240sx's again. and i cant decide if i should sell the celi and buy a 240. i want a 10s car really bad w/out buying a supra. and i know a 240 would be easier to build up and possibly cheaper. but i dont wanna sell the celi. idk
any thoughts or sugestions -------------------- QUOTE ‹Superaison› i'm a computer inclined guy.. ‹Superaison› or girl. idk what gender I am anymore. ‹SeverX13› *facepalm* QUOTE suprakid: o sh!t suprakid: i wanna get an obama chia pet SeverX13: hahahahaha |

I say do you want. You did say dont. So that means you just don't want to get rid of the celica. I say keep up with your plans and the wait is going to be worth it. To be honest I'd rather have a nice reliable, fun and sexy looking dd over a 10 sec car any day.

i'd say wait till your can afford both. or at least 1 beater and 1 project car. you're not gonna want to drive a 10 sec celi/240 daily.

Yes, a solid point. You're going to need 2 cars if you're going to build a 10 second car. If you can't afford to have 2 cars, then you probably can't afford to build a 10 second one anyways. So just wait. -------------------- |

hmmm follow the crowd (drift movement) and be called a poser in the 240 if you dont have and SR swap or a KA-T or a RB swap or a CA or VQ or 2jz or what ever you can thorw in a 240..........(i've been a witness)..........but still have a fun car.........
or go half-trac and dream that your're AWD but still be unique and cool with the 6gc.......... hmmm any path you choose is totally up to you This post has been edited by 808celica: Mar 24, 2008 - 2:21 AM -------------------- I don't normally drive fast, but when I do its on a curvy section of this island

i mean i love 240's... especially 3 years ago...but nowadays they have become WAY too common and popluar. i think you should stick with the celica.

Now if you save up, keep the celi w/ the 5s and buy a 240 later as a project car, then you have something dependable for you're drive to work and something else you can take to the track on the weekends to have some fun in. -------------------- |

Well what year are is the 240 first, because my friend just picked up an '89 240sx that hasn't been driven in 6 yrs so there's only 120,000 km's on the KA motor and he's had to do a ton of body repair/bondo work and replace his hatch-trunk because the spoilers on the 240 is a foam-like sponge where it keeps all the water in and leaks on the bottom so there's MAD RUST if u take that spoiler off, and on a side note, the 6gc and the 240 are dead even on a straight. But it's all the same really, you won't be nearing 10s unless u do a 3s swap and for 240 u'll need to get a SR20 or RB25 or something to near that and the amount of money u pay in the end is nearly the same.
IMO KA-T is not worth it, but i'm not sure if it's more reliable or not. And just like the 6gc's have the GT4 conversion, the 240's have the Type X conversion. Which is approx the same price you'd pay for the gt4 bumper and hood. All up to you bro. This post has been edited by _mikeE: Mar 24, 2008 - 12:01 PM |

Forget that. I'd go with the s15 front end conversion. And btw forget the skyline motor too heavy. stick with the sr20.

Another good point. Most of the people who do the RB swap, do it out of "originallity" (whatever that means in the 240 world these days). They do the swap but never even use the full benefit of the RB. They bring it up a few HP, but it's nothing that the SR motor isn't capable of. The KA-T is not a bad way to go, but if you're looking at a 10 second car, you'll have to go all out. For the qtr mile, traction is your best friend. It's why most Supras are 12 second cars and not 10 second cars . So it's all up to you, there are really a lot of ways to get down to 10 seconds, but no matter what direction you choose to go it's going to cost you $$$$x10000. -------------------- |

That's why purchasing the LSD module insert is one of the first things to purchase when modding your 240
And wooohhhhhhh, 98 huh?! those look so sexy, i love the aggressive impression the front gives off---damn man that's a hard choice if that were me to decide whether to sell my celica or build upon the 240sx, cause u can just sell ur celica, buy the 240, and save a bit and buy a cheap little civic or something to drive around with while your car is in the works. |

10 second car? Sorry but you watched too much F&F !
Make some serious research! If you can seriously build a 10 seconds car, you should have no problem keeping the celica as a 2nd driver. Even 10.99 is some serious mod. The new GT-R is not even close to that. That being said a 240sx would be more fun to drive stock for stock, and is more of a serious car/more potential to get into because of its rear drive-train., unless you'd have access to a gt-four celica. People with 110hp cars like ours think if they can throw 350hp in their car itll be 10seconds EASY..... its not true. Even with the 3s swap stock you have a chance at barely being in the 14's..... that means shaving 3 FULL seconds off of your time to BARELY be in the 10's.... Going from an 18 second ST to a 17 second ST is an intake and exhaust and good tires...... Going from 14 seconds to 10 seconds is thousands of dollars and even more money spent in ADVIL..... I wish you the best of luck on whatever you choose. - Matt |

^^ very nicely said. Couldn't have been said any better.
Anyway dude, you must be raking in some mad money if u plan on building upon the 240 to a 10 second car. Plus, this is a question I usually ask myself when I began modding: "Do I really need it", and "What's the purpose of my car?" Don't forget dude, a car's just a car--a depreciating dollar value. It's not wise to invest so much money in a car because you can lose it like THAT. And with a 10-second car, your chances only skyrocket and you're 17 so i'm assuming you're probably a daily driver with your celica. Imagine the possible downtime on your car if u wanted to rebuild it from ground up. It'd be cool if u picked up a 240, but take ur time with the modding if u wanna hit low times. But IMO invest the money in a house or something, you're probably graduating soon and you don't wanna be broke and in debt payiing your tuitions and loans back after college/univ. while your other friends who thought in advance will have a nice condo/apt., 2 cars, and some even getting married and settling in and booming on their career. Whatever you do bro, think of the outcome--car's are a great hobby and all and don't get me wrong; I LOVE IT. But it's not like you're gonna become a professional racer right? (Not provoking you not to if that is what you want to pursue) But first is first, make sure you're financially stable before doing something like that. Take it easy bro. (Not provoking you not to if that is what you want to pursue) But first is first, make sure you're financially stable before doing something like that. Take it easy bro. I understand what all of you are saying. But cars are my passion. I plan on going to UTI in houston next summer for automotive and the street tuner course. i guess your grad project is to build up a car with nitrous and turbos and all that stuff plus paint and body kit. basically for a living i want to make cars faster and look better (going to shows, sponsors etc) anything involving making cars faster and better. But i dont expect a stock 3sgte to be running 10 at all. I am goin to keep my celica until i wreck it or it just dies on me. And i am willing to invest a good amount of money into my celi to make it the best it can be. If i was to wreck my celi, i would most likely get a 240sx, and if i haev the money ill get a supra instead. But right now i think ill concentrate on my celica until i get a steady well paying job. I was talking to some car enthusiest around my area and they were telling me about show car sponsors. There is some sponsor that sponsors people who are just starting out. So i am definatly lookin into that. Oh and a little bit off topic, if anyone is going to DWG 08, do you think its possible that we can room together? of course i will pay me half of the room. and im not sloppy, disrepectful, or anthing that some 17 yr olds can be. It can possibly be my last chance to go to DWG because next year i will be in houston. PM if anyone is willing to room with me. I might just go to the DWG meet because it'd be really cool to meet Manny and Jeff and Art and Horniak (not sure if that's SuperSprynt's name) those guys are quite inspiring. Plus it'd be awesome to see their rides in person and have the pleasure of being in it.
Only thing is that i'm going to the Sherbrooke meet the first week of August so that's a lot of driving. Plus if I do attend the DWG meet, i'm gonna want to take part in the track races but i'd have to dump a lot more money in my engine rather than fixing up the exterior as what I had initially planned for Sherbrooke. I'll pm you if i decide to go or not (take note that TheShanon wants to tag along with me if i go too.) |
