So since my boy friend owns a 6th gen and the first time I laid eyes on the car, I wanted one. I finally got the celica, but it had more issues than I thought. I boguht the car with both air bags deployed. Since my boy friend did the 7th gen steering wheel swap he had a spare steering wheel left over and we used the air bag assembly from that, but the passenger side air bag panel is still open and the air bag light is on. What can we do to get rid of that light? I really don't have money right now, since I used it all on buying my very own 6th gen. Does anyone know what I can do to get rid of this? Any way to disengage the air bag light? Or do I have to go out and buy a passenger side air bag? Please help.

so it was wrecked pretty hard... i colided at over 100 mh and mine didnt deploy... do u have frame damage?
id be more worried aobut the condition of the car than a lil light.... b/c if bought at a dealership and frame damage isnt disclosed, than u can sue them for all their worth! exspecially cus uve been putting ur life at risk driving an unsafe car... or atleast thats what id tell the court...... i see it all the time and every time it wins... the law states it has to be dislosed..... idk if this is the issue but i just thought id let u know just incase.... |

the car drives fine.. although i popped the hood earlier today and saw that there was some damage to the head light bracket.. but the lower frame looks exactly like my boyfriends car and he has never been in an accident. the crash bar is fine too..
unfortunetly i bought it from a private dealer, but i guess they should of told me about it but i am not quite sure if they even knew about it cause they had said they only bought it a month ago for their grand daughter.. -------------------- |

i'm not trying to bring anyone to court.. i got a really good deal on the car and i wasn't expecting it to be in mint condition.
all i really wanna do is fix the air bag situation and try and get the air bag light to go off. the car drives just fine.. so i'm not sure what to do. does anyone know how to disable the airbag light? -------------------- |

there are two sensors in the front, that's what deploys your airbags... if the sensors are not pushed in, then the airbags will not go off, they MUST be replaced after the airbags go off in order to get them to work again, you have a few options... one is removing the bulb from the dash to keep it from coming on, unplugging the air bag ECU (battery must always be unplugged anytime dealing with airbags), or even maybe a fuse? i have no idea about an airbag fuse... i removed the airbags from my 6gc and i just took out the ecu sensors and all.... so i'm not sure about the fuse... good luck...

black tape works too....
Officially speaking; you should replace the airbag, the sensor and then reset the car. That should take care of it. (well, thats how it worked on my old ford.) Good luck with that. I know some other ways of "turning that light off" but my electronics and wiring ideas are shunned by most people here because i'd rather do things myself than pay "professionals" when it comes to these delicate electronics' issues. Sorry, i'm tired of getting flamed to the ground b/c some people dont understand some concepts of how circuits work. PM me if you want a free (or nearly) and easy way to handle the situation. -------------------- QUOTE (presure2 @ Nov 6, 2010 - 6:16 AM) Via FB: fcuking awsome!!! D-man FTW! Just remove the bulb for now since you seem like you may want to put it back eventually. it's easy to do and won't take very long. I'd leave everything else in place in case you ever do want to restore the system.
Airbag's are flightly things [especially the older ones in our cars]. I have had two 6gc's totaled [one was just on paper - the car got fixed] by other people. One was hit extremly hard from behind and the airbags didn't go off. Sometimes they do on the slitest little hit. This sounds like your case. Don't worry so much about it - just remove the bulb and stick it in your center console or future use. if you need a how-to just follow the one for changing the bulbs in the gauge cluster - make sure you note where the light is before you start disassembling things. hope this helps -------------------- ENGINE: '93 RC 3S-GTE/WRC CT-20b [18-20PSI] PERF: TRD/HKS/ARP/NGK/MSD/ACT/Blitz/STRI/APEX'i/TwosRus/GReddy/Magnaflo/KOYO SUSP: Tein/Bilstein/SusTech/ INT: SS-III SEATS/Toyota Hyper Sports EXT: WRC/TRD/404 Its a safety feature so that people like you don't end up killing themselves or everyone around them. CEL code: 25 ............... Lean Signal Sent By O2 Sensor For Several Seconds
With your airbag light, did you do the similar jumper diagnostic test(kinda like with the check engine codes)? -------------------- |

Autozone can't diagnose the code, they only do OBDII and yours is OBDI.
Here's a link to the manual for (our) cars, it includes the code definitions. Grab a snack if you're on dial up. Full Manual Electrical Wiring Diagrams Lastly, I believe the laws vary from state to state, but to the best of my knowledge it is against the law to sell a car w/deployed airbags w/out disclosing this. (It's the same thing as being illegal to roll back the odometer.) Many states have lemon laws too, but I'm unsure how this affects private parties. You might want to check into this, and then give the seller a call and let them know that they need to replace the air bag sensors or you'll file a small claim against them. (even if you won't.) Don't just stick tape over it or pull the bulb out. Your safety is not worth this lame little quick fix. People on here can help you... replace the air bag(s) and sensor... don't take cheesy short cuts that you might regret later. It sounds like you didn't do your homework before buying this car... you're young, it's all a learning process. Suck it up, do it right and move past it. It's not the end of the world, and I'm sure a mistake you won't repeat in the future. -------------------- |
