Ground the Neg on the cap, then bring up a positive line off your battery (with the car running.) use the included resistor to make this line:

Cap-->Resistor--> positive line off battery (with car running)

if it has a digital display then wait till it hits 12-13 Volts. Otherwise, multimeter. biggrin.gif

Should take about 5-10 min. Good Luck! smile.gif

Side note - does anyone know where to buy the digital meter that goes on the top of a R-F capacitor by itself? My GF cheaped out and bought me the one without it but I really want the one with it - just because.

u need a resistor go to radio shak get one for like 30 cents lol i think the one i had was a brown black brown silver so like a 200 ohm's and post a pic of your cap i have a digital meter but its not one thats goes on a R-F cap its just a digital volt read out so u could hook it the the + and - of the cap and run the wires to the front so u can see it with out leaving your drivers seat! lol ...or just run it off your battery witch in theroy is the same voltage as your cap

okay, YES you can get one from radio shack, vincecs64 PM me and remind me to take a pic for you, because each line represents something...

a resistor with 200ohm's, lol. laugh.gif

DO NOT HOOK UP YOUR CAP DIRECTLY TO THE BATTERY WITH NO CHARGE IN THE CAP!! YOU WILL KILL YOUR BATTERY (rechargeable) AND YOUR CAPACITOR (kiss it good-bye).


You want the cap to fork parallel with the amp from the battery with a shorter wire, and as (wire-wise) close to the amp as possible, therefore it reduces the risk of backup & surge, plus ensures that your draw comes from the cap and not the battery.

A cap can send out electricity WAY faster than a battery, thats why you damage you battery when your not using a cap with your system. All an amp does is charge smaller capicitors and relese the juice all at once, that's how it "amplifies" the sound. It dosnt make more, it just holds it and releases it all at once.

Therefore, when you have a song with alot of heavy bass, the amp is constantly draining and has to draw quickly to get more power into its "holding cells" for the next *boom*

the cap gives a faster charge, so you want the amp to draw from the cap. By putting them closer (wire-wise) than the amp will take from the cap first. The cap however, has plenty of power to share, so it can take a slow draw off the battery to keep from damaging it.

Not a difficult system to understand. but if you want it to work right, you need to wire it right.

the cap and battery also have different voltage during usage. It stabilizes into a similar voltage at rest.
