hey guys, just thought i would make a post about my SAFC2 settings and the effect they have had.

well my settings go from -6% to -16% as the RPM increases. the settings for the mid range RPM's made a noticable difference. upper rpm's still lag though.

and while keeping an eye on the AFR gauge, it still reads rich even when the corection is at -15% in third going 80mph.

i didnt have time to lean out the top end more. i have two tests tomorrow plus the turbo goes in so i will have to undo all the settings anyways.

the car definately gets to 80mph a lot faster but then the fuel curve gets too rich and the engine starts to bog down.

of all the mods that i have done to my car, the SAFC2, with minimal tuning made the most difference(not including the turbo, when thats in, it will blow away everything).

i would do that but like i said, in 3 hours the turbo goes back on to have the down pipe made and after that my settign will be way different than for most ST's

i'm guessing that about -20% corection on the top end would make the car run in stoich conditions.

when i get a chance i will copy down my settings and post them.

settings would be appreciate. I'm currently running to -12% max at 4800 rpm and I've had the same results. midrange power is increased and it pulls pretty well once off the line.

My car with these settings only had a short ram intake on.
here are my settings

lo throttle

the rpm points for those settings are the stock points for the SAFC2

TH point settings
30% and 70%

with those settings, the AFR still reads rich. i planed on dropping the lo throttle settings all to -20% for fuel economy as John from Dolcek racing said he wanted to try.

conclusion:

THE 7AFE FUEL MAP SUCKS. runs way too rich

and on a side note, at idle RPM the corection is a -6% and with that setting the car does not shake if the AC is on!!! i know some people were complaining about that and the SAFC2 seems to have fixed that problem

no problem, once i get the turbo setup fully working and daily driven, i will post all the specs and settings including mpg loss.

im also working on an electronic wastegate opener. the idea being that when im cruising on the freeway, i can hit the button and the wastegate would be pulled open and no boost would be made, conserving fuel and letting things run cooler.

well guys,

i guess your in luck. my mom broke her ignition so she had to drive my car around.

s0o0o0, i didnt get to put the turbo stuff on and missed the appointment to have a DP made.

tonight imm gonna mess around with the tuning of the SAFC for one last NA session and post the results for you guys.

Yah, I had similar settings until I started having a misfire and I pulled the plugs. I was running a max of -15% and reading the plugs, the car was WAAAAY lean. Don't trust the O2 sensor!!! Its not an accurate way to tune the car at all! The misfire turned out to be unrelated to the safc settings, but just a warning, be careful. I zeroed mine again until I decide what I'm doing with my motor or until I get on the dyno with the wideband.

thanks for the warning.

i messed around with the settings a little(2-3% difference) and didnt make too much of a difference.

i tried having the low throttle curve set all to -20% and after cruising around for a while i pulled over and checked out the engine, mad sure it wasnt running too hot and that nothing broke.

i noticed the best improvement when the corection was at -15% on the high throttle curve. it definately pulled harder but for some reason the roads were populated tonight. i didnt get to do too much.

if i wasnt going turbo, i would keep the settings i had before. i drove with those settings for most of summer and havent had problems, but where i live, its hot all the time. it might have something to do with why i havent noticed problems with my settings

btw, i plan on using my dad's EGT tool to see what my egt's are when i have the downpipe made.

that should also help with tunning before i get some dyno time

just checked my plugs and they look normal by my chiltons manual and several on line pics. no signs of any problems

oh, i also forgot to mention that since i have OBD2, i cant really mess with the timing, so that is set to stock.

and for these runs i was running 91 octane

That sucks about the timing....I was running about 13 deg base. Sounds like you're being careful and know what you're talking about, but be really careful!! Seat of the pants tuning is never all that close. Please please please spend the $100 or so and dyno with a wideband once you get your mods done. You will find significatly more power, guaranteed.

yea, again thanks for the advice.

it was my plan all along to have the car dyno tuned when i was done.

its just that i got a little restless and had to play around wink.gif

i got a that will give me one dyno run for about $50. i figure that for $150 he will let me use the dyno for about 1 hour.

he has the full setup as well.


and untill i do get the car dyno tuned, i will be running the whole setup rich to prevent problems(not very rich, but i will make sure as hell the car doesnt go anywhere near lean when im boosting)

btw i have blown my fair share of engines by leaning them out too much, granted they were RC airplane engines but the same basic tuning priciple is the same only it was a whole lot easier to tell if the RC engine was too lean. if you tapped the engine head quickly and got burned, youre running too lean. tongue.gif

man im tired, i got to get up early tomorrow and put the turbo on so that i can get the DP made asap. i just switched to datafile 2 on my SAFC and now all fuel settings are at stock.

Haha, I always tune my RC cars by sound and by spitting on the head smile.gif. That sounds kind of expensive for the dyno, you should be able to get on one for about half that. Where are you located? I might know somebody. Theres an AWD dyno about 5 miles from my house that I can get on for $75 an hour (also does 2WD obviously).

i live right by six flags magic mountain in socal.

if you know of any cheaper places that would be really helpful
