I have found someone to do a 3sgte swap for me and was wondering what the general cost most of you have paid to have it done? For those who have had it done.

I did mine for under $3,000. But then again, I did it, which saved me money. If u have someone else do it...eh probably 4000. I've heard 5 but i think thats a lil high.

Actually, I'll let you know how much I spent. You figure $2500 shipped for a front clip, another $1000- $1500 for labor and another grand for miscellanous parts and/or tranny if you need it. Comes out to about 5k. It's really not high, especially if you previously had an auto. But if you can, doing it yourself is the way to go.

You can buy a brand new 3rd gen 3SGTE from Toysport for 4500. General labor is in the 1000-2000 range(depending on the condition of the engine, labor rate, extras...).

I thought Toysport had a 3rd gen clip for $2700. $4500 is ridiculously expensive. 3rd gen does have 30 HP over the 2nd gen, but finding replacement parts for a 3rd gen here in the US will be a tad more difficult.

Ok new question then. If I were to go with an ae101 4agze engine what would the general cost of that be in compareson to the 3sgte? I have no clue about engines except the small maintanece things. Is it at all possible to in the future turbo charge the 4agze even though it is already supercharged to get more power out of it? Or is that to much for the engine to handle?

Well I have been browsing around and have come up with another question. I have an automatic ST(7afe). The 3sgte is an awd engine correct? and my car has FR drive. How much more is that going to cost me or can I run the 3sgte or the 4agze for that matter with FR drive?

If you guy to the company's website, or call them, you should be able to get a price range straight for the horse's mouth... yes, it's that simple... As for tubo'ing a 4agze, I'm sure it's possible... anything is possible... as long as you have the funds... |

The 3S-GTE was used in the AWD (GT-FOUR / All-trac) Celica and Caldina and in the MR (Turbo) MR2. However, it can also be used in a FF setup. Your car is NOT FR, but FF... This post has been edited by kuya1284: Sep 16, 2003 - 12:47 PM |

4500 is for a BRAND NEW engine. The 2-3k price is for one with 20,000 miles or more. |

Ok I see on toysport that the 3rd gen calindina 3sgte is 4500 that is within my price range to have it put in my car, but the question is now how do I get it insured? And for those of you that have already done this conversion how much does it cost to insure this type of engine? Assuming that I get it to pass emmisions! I am hoping to have around 9000 to do this conversion so I am guesing that that will not be a prob.
