I'd say don't do it, the quality of the primer determines the quality of the final looks of the paint
if you're not 100 percent sure of what you're doing you should give it to proffessional |

I agree and dissagree.
If this is something you want to do, then you need to learn else-where, then bring it to your car. You will need a LOT more than some spray cans to get the job done. You'll be needing several hundred (if not thousand) dollars worth of tools & supplies, plus MUCH experience. I reccomend that you learn to spray first, then get your car involved. Otherwise, take it to a pro. Just my .02 Cents though, it's your car, do as you please. My opinion is go to those vocational schools learn a little there. I go to evit Im a 2nd year now Ive learned so much 2!! Rattling a car isnt a real gd idea because some paint shops will charge more because of that or not even accept it. This vocational school evit is tied to the local high schools so its Cheap and has NATF certification. The teacher lets students bring in there own car to wrk on and he charges like 300 let me tell u these jobs are close if not better than any pro shop Ill try and post pics of this sweet job me and my friend did at the school My teacher was Amazed!!! They charge $65 a year for students and $1800 4 adults but real gd program and adults get there certification in a year!! Students have to take 2 years! Oh well i luv that class!! I know sorta off topic but jus an idea of what u can do and prolly get cheaply done

I say go for it and do it yourself. You'll learn a lot as well as save lots of $$$$$$$. It's really not that hard. I'll be painting my celica in a few weeks. ..and yes, I'm doing everything myself. I'll post pics when I'm done. This post has been edited by ImportChick95: Jul 14, 2008 - 12:25 AM |

just in case you're going DIY here was my parts list:
gun and accessories compressor water filter stuff you'll need bright lights to see gallon paint 1/2 gal. primer (black) 1pt. thinner 1pt. hardner mixing cup mixing sticks 5 big plastic sheetings forgot the size, but 4 for the sides and 1 for the floor 2 vaccums 3 fans i used 7 rolls of 1/2" wide tape newspaper ALOT!!! of course painters mask, googles, and that breather thing sorry i cant remember......hahahah the **RESPIRATOR** *edit** and some other things i'll add take your time and start my buying extra paint and test it on small things like your mirrors. just to get the feel and pressure you want to shoot at. of course i didnt wanna mess up bad so my dad did most of the job. i sprayed the lower parts of my car i.e. the lips and sideskirts, only cuz my dads back isnt as good as he things *note* i didnt buy clear yet and havent sprayed the clear, but be sure i will my car is shiny as it stands. I say go for it. Don't ever let anyone tell you that you can't do something. I am going to get a gun myself and start teaching myself things. I am a self taught person as I am assuming you are too.
