Well having to many dishes, and only one mouth, decided to start with this project. The TRD bumper is aside.

I went ahead, and bought MR2 seats because of similarities with our seats. One of them being the lower cushion seats as high as ours. And just by looking at it they look similar....

some pics....

now look at the following picture, is that from a celica or mr2 tongue.gif , they look very similar....

took apart the whole thing...

and the pieces are ready to be cleaned....

but one thing that puzzles me, is the fact of the similarities of the seats....

just take a look at the cushion and the trim pieces.... it looks like i tore up a celi seat. the trim pieces are identical.

so this leaves me with a mistery, can i put the cushions of the mr2 on the celi seat track. I dont have a clue yet, but i will try.

I am so tired, so i only undid the mr2 seats, i would have to take apart a celi seat and figure out compatibility.

Keep you guys posted.....

well 30 mins in ac and two activia yogurts... decided to move on..

here is side by side comparison of both metal bases. the achoring points are different..

but they are otherwise similar...

the mr2 cushion fits the celis metal skeleton. except for some edge trimming... it has some weird airbag sensors that i wont use...

mounted to the seat, it is not tied yet, because it will be washed first biggrin.gif

some leftovers.

so basic lesson, you dont have to swap the lower cushion, however i needed the same color fabric, all you have to do is swap the upper torso and get the whole seat reupholstered...

whooooooohooooooo no soldering, that trip to North carolina was worth it.......

end of story. I already ordered some samples to change my molded carpet color.... I am redesigning the interior...

Keke, thats no airbag sensor, looks like a pressure sensor for sensing if there's anyone on the seat so the seatbelt warning light can turn on or off accordingly.

you never know until you try. i tried, and it did not hurt. the cloth is clean, i will put it back together today and post final pics of the seat. i believe the bolts of the upper torso should be same.

no soldering, and same bolts, which means i still mantain the same type of safety.... im happy. ill put more pics as i get home. Now the only thing is that i have to change the back seat color and the carpet.

Ran into problems today, but they are fixed. Because i placed these covers in the washing machine it messed up the cloth were the wires go, and i had to go and buy upholstery thread and stuff. but i fixed it with my sewing machine, it delayed me 2 hours... at least its very clean..... kindasad.gif

not bad for a first timer..... biggrin.gif

here is the bottom cushion, i mean it is not a perfect fit, but nearly perfect, i pictured the sides where i had to cut...

and the bottom all zip tied, and ready to be mounted. i will rest for a couple and zip tie the top.....

i will do the work, need to find good fabric, i had a quote of 400 just for the back, that is ridiculous. i have bought shauns old seat covers, that i will disassemble to get the patterns.... and go from there....
