yes i know im lookin for people opinions and asking about different cars again, but im havein trouble decide what car is better for me. I was set on the 3000gt but today i saw an mr2 and smacked my head because i forget about them haha. so now im stuck on decideing which one i should get. i know if i get the mr2 turbo it will respond better to mods due to teh 3sgte. but the 3000gt is twin turbo and as close to supra performance as i can get right now. i need people 2 cents haha

thanks

~Brent~

the 3000gt is a pile of crap. I have a friend who buys/sells/repairs them and he hates them. Constant problems, especially witht the turbo versions. And its EXPENSIVE to fix.

I wouldn't touch a 3000GT. Friend had a VR4 and it was nothing but issue after issue.

MR2 I'm not a fan of the 3000GT's at all, very fugly imo and i've heard of them having regular issues. the MR2 is very good looking and if you can find a turbo one deff. worth while.

Even if you can't find a MR2t the 5S ones are pretty quick due to the drivetrain configuration.

I'd SO pass on that 3000GT too. Fugly doesn't even touch it IMO... plus, they really are total crap. If you really wanna go that route, save yourself the $$ and get yourself a mid-90s Eclipse. That way when it goes to junk you'll have spent a little less $$$ on it. laugh.gif Plus, I think the 3000GT is like a trailer-park mid life crisis car.

MR2. Allllllllllllll the way.

3000s are alright looking, but the interior is tiny compared to the size of the car. The engine bay is 300zx-like in that you have NO room to work. It IS a Mitsubishi car, and the cost of parts will eventually require you to auction off a couple of your vital organs on E-Bay.

And although I LOVED my 97 Eclipse GST, don't get a DSM, for the love of God... It's not for nothing this saying exists :

"DSMs : Turning ordinary people into mechanics since 1989."

i'd say mr2 too... that size makes it all worthwhile. the 3000gt is huge, heavy and clunky, but i guess vr4 ones are 300hp stock... but yeah, toyotas will deff last longer than mitsubishi lol

Not all 3000gt's are turbo, only the vr4 and "modded" ones are... the vr4 is awd aws and have multiple problems.....

If you think the range of this is tiny on celicas, wait till you get in a 3000, theres nothing for em!

Noone will work on them because they have to pull the engine bc of the tiny engine bay...

Even if you get the standard v6 and add twin turbos, its no better than a 3s celica... lots of power to only 2 FRONT wheels.....

Mr2 all the way....
Granted, it only has two seats, but everyone will be competing to sit in that other one!
you have knowledge of toyota, swaps are the same and everything is the same basics as the celica...
the Mr2 is what i like to consiter the adulthood of the celica....
soo much more you can do with them! granted its still a toyota and any engine work done to it your hard found to find a good tuning place... idk if this is just here in texas or everywhere but modded toyotas are hard to find tuners for... all i see is honda and nissan....

But with it being a toyota it will last longer and its simplicity will alow you to work on it yourself....

hmmm and since when did the 3000gt have 2 trunks and a mid engine chassy with only 2 seats?
lol pure sexyness at its best...

choose wisely... i was faced with this same decision and im glad i stayed away from the 3000..... i practically ran from it! lol

haha yes i really do want to stay in the toyota family because next year i will be toyota certified. ive decided to get an mr2, but the hard part is talkin my parents into letting me get one. im sure i could do it tho biggrin.gif

if i sell my celica for around 7 or 8 grand and find an mr2 turbo for say 5000 then that will leave me with 3g's to spend on mods to the engine. i will take a bit out for rims and a wing tho.

what all could i do to an 3sgte with 2 grand?

personally i say leave the exterior styling to a minimum. it doesn't really need all that much to look good. maybe a late model spoiler or even a trd spoiler rims and a drop.

as for performance upgrades i would first make sure everything is running tip top. being a turbo sports car you will know that previous owners have beat it to hell. it might even be worth while to find one with a shot motor for 2-3 grand then swap a new motor from japan with low miles. they aren't too much for the mr2 and easier to come by than the celica 3sgte
