Hey all, so I'm planning on driving my baby from LA to Vegas this weekend. I didn't think anything of it cause shes been running fine, but my friend's concern (13 year old car, random mishaps, etc.) got me all paranoid.

The longest ive driven was from from LA to the Bay (about 360 miles) 3 years ago. Nowadays the longest she's gone is LA to Riverside (60 miles).

Is there anything I should check out before taking my car on a 5+ hr (traffic) drive? Besides tires/oil/coolant. I don't want to break down somewhere in Death Valley, miles away from a casino!

don't worry she will do fine haha, you might want to check brake fluid/clutch fluid and power steering fluid too other than that make sure everything is up tight should be fine.

You'll be fine. I drove from MD to TX and no problems at all. Granted I did all the fluid changes and made sure everything was good before I left. But like Akirad says, carry some extra goodies with you, just incase.

ehehe
Go for it! No problem..

Just check the basic:
Motor Oil;
Tyres;
and Gas tongue.gif

You are ready to have a nice trip!!

This last summer i ride 400 kms (250 miles) one day, to get some bad weather in resort...so i drove back the next day..other 450 kms back to place near home town..
And hitting hard on foot pedal..like 160-170 km/h ...

So i think you will have no problem at all.
Just expect a little tired from the drive....but thats nothing to do with the celica.....tongue.gif

Have a nice vacations biggrin.gif

EDIT. Forget to say...is a TOYOTA!!! !!!

i had a 16year old ST185 Carlos Sainz to Germany last year with about 14 other 185s and 205s to watch the WRC and then do 4 laps of the Nurburging, whilst there not 1 had any failures so i think that speaks for itself, we all gave the cars a good roasting on the autobahns many of us hitting well over 150mph, we had faith in our cars that weekend

I drove Portland to Vegas to Newport Beach and up 101 back to Portland in July. Like everyone said, check your fluids and you should be fine.

Don't bother stopping to see the world's largest thermometer in that ONE town in Death Valley between LA and Vegas. It's SUPER lame.

haha yea as playr158 says you can drive that much and be fine, i drove like 2000 in two days then in another two i drove down to florida from pennsylvania........

the celica holds up real well, just gotta do the usual checks and get gas and everything will be solid

The worst part about driving my celi long distance? My gas gauge. I get crap mileage in town with all the slow stop and go driving, but when I get on the Trans-Canada, I get like 100 kms more per tank and it's deceiving! I always worry that my gauge is lying to me.

It's not lying to you. You get WAY better mileage on the highway than in constant stop and go traffic. I can go a good 75 - 100 miles on straight highway once my gas light has come on, probably more if I chanced it... I know on that trip back up to Portland up 101 (VERY mountainous, curvy roads) we got close to 500 miles on a tank. Granted that's an ST, but it was pretty amazing considering all the mountains.

I don't think I've ever had the tank low enough to have the gas light come on. Maybe I saw it flicker once. If I recall, the most I have ever put in it was like 48L. In my old Nissan, the gas light didn't work and I ran out of gas in between towns a couple years back. Had to hike for an hour to a gas station that wouldn't lend me a jerry can and had none for sale.

The next place lent me a jerry and even drove me back to my car. smile.gif
