Hey all. I was sick of the old head unit not getting any radio stations (silly Japanese using a different set of frequencies) and not having aux inputs so went to Norman Ross today and got a new one. As it says above a Panasonic CQ-RX400N.

Firstly I cannot believe how simple it was to install. especially when i pulled the old one out and there were wires everywhere. The job that was done was so bad.
I just brought an adapter for about $10 and it plugged straight in. bolted it up with a pocket below it. it sits well just that the hole seems a little to small to put the surround on. but hey.

I reckon the head unit is awesome, has both aux and usb which is awesome. It cost $240 had $300 on the shelve. The sound output is better with no more crackle through the speakers when playing cds.

I reckon it has updated the look of the interior.

I would like to say thank you to Batman722 to pointing me towards http://www.installdr.com/ (through another thread). that site is awesome.

Ill try post up some photos tomorrow.

Edit: spelling

A new head unit made a world of a difference to me as well. I only had cassette/radio from the stock unit, and I got one with a CD player (duh) and an AUX input. I barely use the CD player, and I haven't listened to radio since. biggrin.gif

Matches nicely with all the other green. biggrin.gif

Haha Awesome. I love the USB input, I can play music from a flash drive and dont have to worry about my mp3 player running out of battery.

Yea I think one of the next mods will be to make the rest of the lights blue. (yes i know delusionz i would be copying but what you going to do? hahaha just joking)

I am a bit different, i like listening to the radio, also this is the first car i have had period that is able to pick up crystal clear reception. On my other car it also had a cheap and nasty band expander so the reception so real average. luckily it also had an aux input.

I guess I would listen to it more if radio didn't suck here, they just play the same songs again and again...much better having my own music. biggrin.gif

I can't recommend Sirius satellite radio highly enough. Other than listening to NPR in the mornings on my way to work (part of my daily ritual) I haven't listened to "terrestrial" radio really since 2004. At 12 bucks a month and no commercials, it's WELL worth it. I just have the portable tuner hooked up to 1 of the 2 aux inputs on my deck (also a Panasonic, and I really really like it even though it's a couple years old) and it sounds great.

Awesome. There is something similar to that in new zealand you pay some much a week and have a place to store your music and they broadcast it out you just have a little tuner that is encrypted to demodulate only your station on there frequencies or something like that I think.

Also I just listen to THE ROCK. They play a lot of the same music but also some great older rock music like led zeppelin, tool, metallica etc.
Yea i am a bit of a red neck smile.gif.

Is the face on your deck motorized? Mine is, and you can adjust the tilt 3 different ways, which reduces glare nicely tongue.gif

Hi Can I swap you my CQ-RX300W (Same as yours but Green) then the green will match your lights and the Blue will match my lights. LOL laugh.gif

Great head unit Man.

I love my head unit in my car, I Bought a 4GB "Pico" drive for my head unit as it's the smallest USB Drive available.

"http://www.supertalent.com/products/stt_usb_detail.php?type=Pico" the drive is so small there is no danger of it getting damaged like the bigger ones do.

parriehunter when are you coming up to Auckland so we can work on the Blue lights for you.

Bloody Hell that is one small flash drive. One of mates has one that is so small only a couple of mm's stick out so you can grab it.

Yea they are good how it charges ipods and other mps players. (I dont own an ipod death to apple) I'm not a big fan of apple.

Yea I do really like this heat unit for the money I paid.
