So my clutch has started to slip and i will be repalcing it and my flywheel hopefully the last week of december.

I have a 94gt and will not being doing any performance mods

I would like to replace my flywheel with a lighter weight one
I am just looking for a clutch that is better than OEM without being too hard core

So i just kinda want everyones inputs, and experiences you have had with different brands...

thanks for your input

Ive been running the ACT stage 2 for nearly 60k miles and its still great. My OEM one was dead @ 188k miles. At the time it was cheaper than the oem one too..

Anyway I love this clutch. It bites firmly and the clutch pedal is only slightly stiffened, nothing leg breaking. biggrin.gif

As a matter of fact i also learned how to drive stick on this clutch, and it still lives. thumbsup.gif

Just don't go beyond stage 2. I notice the stage 3 tends to jerk at slow accelerations from stops.

if i'm mistaken don't most clutches fall into the exedy brand? not sure where i heard that from but, i did. me mechanic put a stage 1 clutch in my car. not sure what the brand is, but it was free. i burnt a clutch learning to drive stick 2 years ago. he put 3 in after that. they all had defects, or something. the springs snapped on them i think. we went stage 1 for the 4th clutch. not much difference in response, but i sure feel a difference in torque. you should definitely get a racing clutch though. good luck. btw if you don't have it already throw a short shifter in there too. soo much fun. woot.gif

Yes, I believe most (Japanese, anyway) OEM clutches are manufactured by Exedy. I know they supply clutches to Toyota and Nissan, at the very least. I believe I found that tidbit of information directly on their website.

Checking that right now... Trying to cite my sources wink.gif

Oh, hold on, gotta get it translated again.

Nope, not from their website. I'm researching again.

Got it! Here you go. http://www.exedyusa.com/oe/ 5th paragraph.

the best clutch you can buy if your staying close to stock (IE no turbo) is an OEM unit.
it has the best pedal feel, and longest life of any clutch you can buy.
spec and fidanza both make LW flywheels for the S54 tranny, but they are expensive (~400 for the spec, 3-350 for the fidanza)

Ditto. I've got that in mine and I absolutely love it.

Without any engine performance mods, there's really no reason for a stage 2 or lightweight flywheel or any of that kind of stuff. Your clutch should be well paired with your engine's needs- that's how you'll get the best performance out of both.

Hahaha yeah, back when I thought I needed a new clutch (still do kindasad.gif) I was looking at replacing the flywheel while I had everything out. Changed my mind in a hurry!

exedy racing stage 1 full face in my gt4 for about 4 months now with no problems, running 17psi.

don't get a paddle clutch as my mates been complaining loads about his when compared to my full face one. I'd expect a standard exedy would be fine for the Gt with no mods.

also got the fidanza lightweight flywheel and not had any problems with that either.

the clutch is no heavier than the standard one was and the only difference is that you need an extra 500rpms for setting off from standstill with the lighter flywheel, but you soon get used to that and forget you are doing it.
