ok is this the easiest way in to get this git off, i had to stop today as the sun was nearly down and it was freezing, hopefully get it off tomorrow. As you can see i took the wheel off and where the red arrow is i had to grease up my arm and go in through that gap. I could get my hand on it and maybe if i had some 90degree pliers i would have had the plug off. My elbow was up against the cross member i think it is my grip with my fingers just wasnt strong enough and i could hardly get my arm in anymore. I have my doubts of of whether i can get a spanner on it hopefully a 24mm deep socket will do, it is 24mm isn't it? cause i have heard it is 23mm too. I hope this is help for anyone else trying to get the knock sensor out cause it is a pain and there is limited amount of pictures on how to get to it. Any advice is welcome

youve got to get the car nice and high on jack stands, or a lift is even better, slide all the way under, behind the crossmember, and look up and the back of the block from there...

although now that i think about it, with a GT4, things will be MUCH harder back there, with the AWD trans.
crap, didnt think of that till just now, sorry mate!
but yes, the arrow in your 2nd to last pic, and the last pic are what your after.

Yeh i know i took them, you can see i wasn't far off getting it off, just get some 90degree pliers and 24mm deep socket and i should be laughing. It's just im not the smallest bloke im 6'3 and quite well built and putting my arm in that gap isn't the most comftable, was hoping i had overlooked another way in. I'm going to test the wiring once i get it out by bridging the plug with a paperclip and if i dont get the engine light on i know it is the sensor.

Right basically that damn knock sensor is 27mm, no wonder 24mm wouldnt go on and i found you can get to it better going from on top down beside the cold air intake. Got the plug off but i swear someone has torqued it on real tight cause i still cannot get it off 44nm is not that much.

Ok this is how im doing it now to get the ks off and it is much easier than going in from the wheel arch. Take the strut brace off which is those 6 nuts and bolts, unbolt the charge cooler reservoir from the strut brace and let it hang free as you see in the first pic. Then in the second picture i know it isn't the best explanation of where to put ur hand but u need to go under the dizzee cap and push ur arm pretty much the full length along until ur under the manifold. Then it is all about touchie feelie try and find the thin pastic shroud with one wire in it should lead you straight to the ks right under the manifold. Hope this helps anyone.

I finally got it out after 3 days of using new tool contraptions ive been making up. This is such a great day, however the sensor looks pretty sound and there is no rattling however it was very over torqued, i am hoping that was the problem but i have ordered a second hand just in case.
