So I'm driving down 410 in SA last weekend and I saw a truck W/ turn signals on the mirrors.. and I thought, that would be kinda cool to have on my celica.
Well I've been thinking about it and now I've ordered the parts to do it w/. I got 100 amber LEDS and resistors to make it work w/ 13 volts. I'm going to use 5 LEDs on each side, so a total of 10. What does everyone think of this idea. Stupid? Or something you'd want to do or have done for you? i thought about it something very similar. The problem with your setup you have to be very careful to remove the mirror chrome paint in perfect circles. Which honestly i cant do.
But i think it will be very cool if easy reproducible. what i tought is something like this below or on the sides of the mirror, will do after this week or so.. -------------------- Learned a lot in 10 years... I would think a good glass shop should be able to remove the mirror coating for you.

I know my idea is slightly different than yours, but I wouldn't mind seeing this. Do you know what the headlights of some new Audi's look like? With the line of LED's in them, I mean. I think it would be cool to do something like that on the bottom of the mirror. There is a little area that isn't quite the bottom of the mirror assembly, but isn't the front either. I would like to see some lights there. But my idea is next to impossible. So I really want to see how this will work out!

Isn't the general idea to have them where you cannot see them untill theylight up? I believe they do that by usng some kind of really thin mirror material or something, but you can't just drill holes and place LEDs then Silicone over it... Well you CAN, but it'd probably not come out so well... Because of having to smooth it out. You cannot sand it; else messing up your exsisting mirror. WHat are you plans to overcome that obsticle?

whats the point? i have little green arrows on my dash that remind me when my blinkers are on and lights on all 4 corners that alert other drivers when im using my turn signal to change lanes or turn lol. jk bro. cool idea, but not for me. love to see how this comes out and next time you are in sa hit me up we will get together The idea is to also alert drivers RIGHT next to you of your attempt to lane change or turn. Like in heavy traffic and you're trying to move over, and some crack headed driver that's in his/her own world is managing to stay right by you... Just in all bringing up the visibility of our small cars to other drivers. I wonder what it'd look like to have the LED at the point of the arrow lit up dimly all the time our parking lights are on. Wouldn't be too different to wire it in, and could easily be reversed. I also like the idea of that line, but idk how well it'd flow with the car, and it'd be pretty hard to make it look "factory installed." I'm actually thinking of not drilling completely through, but just enough to get the LED to seat in the mirror straight, then filling the free space w/ clear silicone. That would make the mirror still have a nice smooth surface and make the LEDs look more "factory installed." I also have another set of mirrors, just in case I mess up, or don't like the mod. I really want to experiment with making my own LED tails. But idk if I'd want a solid block of them, or a circle, or what. But I love the way they light up instantly and how they just look so much cleaner then regular bulbs. Plus LEDs are pretty cheap on ebay, and I am pretty electronically inclined as well. So as long as i can come up w/ a design that will look good, there is nothing else stopping me. Scott , I lost my phone, so with it I also lost your new number. Sounds like you've got a really good plan, and a really good idea for wanting to do it. Plus, having spares is always a great idea before starting something like this. I say, since you've got this all planned out, go for it! I'd like to see the finished product. Depending on how it turns out, I might even pay you to do it to my car

what about a scion mirror retrofit.... i think there's a turn signal strip on the front that wraps around the back. its not the 5 led arrow turn you want, but its still a flashy bulb for turn signals.
i betcha d-man can post up some scion mirrors... -------------------- |

i have been wanting to do this for a while now...but i dont want anything on my actual mirror, but more so on the side or underneath...i think a clear plastic glass would look good if you could mold it in to the side but i think an LED strip positioned right might aslo work...i think its a pretty cool mod its just a shame noone makes these aftermarket mirrors for our cars like they do the 7th gens
